  • I don't think this is a very realistic poll. As I'm sure some people must have said already... A newspaper isn't a service in the same way loads of the other companies are. You pay to buy it but then it's up to you what you do with it. If you join a utility company you are contracted to their service, you can't bin it or refuse to pay more if you don't like them because they'll cut you off or charge you to change service early.

Anyway... I chose british gas as Royal Mail isn't on the list. My only reason is that they bombard my workplace with phone calls over a ridiculous situation that is heading to a big court battle because they won't listen to the issues and it keeps going round in circles to the point where we've been advised to let them take us to court!! SILLY!

From personal experience I'd say Lloyds TSB as it feels like a never ending war with my overdraft (although everything is frozen etc thanks to reading this site). However they knocked 7.5k off my credit card for a tiny settlement amount (which THEY proposed to me without me asking) so it's two extremes really!

Sure :snow_grin To take one for instance, I thoroughly enjoyed an article I've referred to here and it's rare you find journalists working a case through use of fantasies. It was passionate although kept subtle and therefore less intimidating, yet his view compellingly made. I make no apologies for appreciating those who can intellectualise any crisis situation instead of seeking to appeal to emotions at best or settling for soundbites and punchlines at worst.

    To get a bit technical:

Here in the UK the prosecution witnesses have to be able to demonstrate that they know what they are talking about to the satisfaction of the judge (not to mention the jury) By definition an organisation of spooks has to be structured so that nobody knows what they are doing; otherwise the capture of one lowly agent would compromise the whole shadowy organisation. It is better that 100 guilty men go free than one innocent person is "stitched up".
We don't have the same legal system as the Yanks - they can organise a sting and the evidence stands up in court (eg setting up a fake pawnbroker offering good rates for stolen goods); however we have the medieval law of conspiracy, where you can go to jail for plotting a teenage fantasy (provided you have actually taken some actions to make it possibly come true).

I don't think the Americans appreciate that "softly softly catchee monkey" gets better results than the Wham Bam approach.
  • I missed the poll and i really don't like the Sun newspaper but I would have voted for Ryanair.

The Scum newspaper wins by a mile!! All it does is publish page 3 girl pictures and totally incorrect stories which are NOT based on actual facts just hearsay and LIES.

I hope that one day this vile newspaper is shut down so that no more LIES are told by it!

By the way I live in Liverpool and I dislike anyone who buys this rubbish!!! Oh and yes I am a Liverpool supporter and yes my family were affected by Hillsborough and it still hurts 20 years on!!!

I had to think long and hard, as I've had bad experiences with several of the companies listed.

In the end I voted for Ryanair.

Flogas should be on here. Just type in Flogas in the search on MSE or "I hate Flogas" in to Google, to see why

While I choose not to buy any newspaper for no other reason than I cannot abide the adverts & pomposity of some of their columnists, I do have to admire the 'winner' of this poll for at least attempting to stir the population & instill some national pride in our Armed Forces. The publication comes in for a lot of criticism but surely they deserve some respite for the part they played instigating The Millies. There is a lot I don't like about the USA but I do wish we were as patriotic & supportive of our Services--domestic & military--as they are & The Sun has made a good start.
We all have freedom of choice so if you don't like x,y or z then leave it--& their supporters--in peace.
