SKY - Broadband - Seeking Advise

Morning folks,
Bit of a cross over with Digital TV this one so hopefully I'm in the right place.
After receiving an offer from SKY for 1/2 price TV for 12 months if I returned, I decided to cancel my Virgin Media contract and go back to Sky for my TV, Broadband and Telephone.
I rung Sky first to discuss the deal and was offered the 1/2 TV, plus free phone and free internet. A very good deal.
So on the back of this, I cancelled with Virgin and asked BT to reconnect my line (12 month contract).
Once my line was in I rang to place my order with Sky.
When it came to Broadband, they back tracked and told me the Free service wasn't available to me, the only package was a £17 per month whopping great big package that I don't need.
Sky have admitted they have made a mistake, admitted they were wrong to offer me the free internet, but are unwilling to do anything about this.
I've spoken to various people at Sky about it, and no one will do anything about it.
I just wondered if I have any grounds to press them further on this?
On the back of their offer, I cancelled with my existing provider, started a 12 month contract with BT that now I'm stuck with.
And Sky are, in effect, not bothered!
Any thoughts from anyone out there? I've been well and truly shafted by Sky and want to take it further but don't know if I'm wasting my time!
Thanks in advance.

Ask Sky to honour the contract they made with you, otherwise recover your BT costs by taking them to court via the small claims process.
If they've admitted the error and all your paperwork supports that then you should have a very good claim.
If they have any sense they'll simply backtrack and offer you the original deal for a year.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thanks for the reply.
There is no paper work. The deal was offered to me verbally over the phone. But the notes are on my account confirming this, I've had them read to me word for word.
Recover costs by taking BT to court, or Sky?0 -
Totally agree, persue a claim with them.
BTW If you check on Samknows you may find another LLU operator that can offer your cheap rate broadband, Like O2 maybe.

I would think Sky should compensate you, have you cancelled your order with them?
Its hardly BT's fault that Sky have not installed their equipment at your exchange.
BTW Sky basic internet is pretty poor being up to 2Mbps with a 2 Gb download cap. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Not yet cancelled, I have until this evening to cancel with no further costs.
My line can't take more than 2Mbps anyway, so no point in going for anything more expensive.
Thanks for all the replies, I'll have another go at Sky, see if they budge.0 -

What possible claim would you have against BT?
You don't need a paper contract. A verbal contract has exactly the same legal validity. The important thing is that you can back up your claim of what they offered initially with dates, times, names etc.
Ask to speak to Sky 2nd line support, as the first line will not have any authority for what need to get.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
