Caffe Nero toilet- foul

Hi all,
I went into Caffe Nero in Hammersmith yesterday as I was waiting for a friend. I got a cup of tea and sat down at a table covered in dirty cups and crockery which was still there when I left.
On my way out I went to the toilet. There was one toilet for the ladies and one for the chaps with a single, lockable door separating it from the main area of the restaurant (which I thought was illegal, I thought there had to be 2 doors with 'dead space' between). As soon as I stepped inside I began to regret my decision, there was a very strong smell of stale urine, bits of used tissue and rubbish all over the floor, the toilet seat was hanging off, there was no loo roll (luckily I had tissues in my bag), there was no soap and the wall-mounted dispenser was cracked beyond the point of repair. There was also an unpleasantly-soiled toilet brush on full display.
I think now that I should have said something to the staff, but by the time I left I was a little late to meet my friend and there was a long queue for drinks. I've sent an email to their complaints department so it will be interesting to see what they say in response...

I once visited a Costa's toilet a few years back in Golder's Green.
I lifted the toilet lid and cannot describe the sight. Somebody must have been extremely ill, to say the least. I fell backwards against the cubicle door in shock and left the cafe as quickly as possible before compulsively washing my hands in another toilet's sinks nearby.
I should have said something, but at the time I was more concerned with getting the hell out of there.
I understand that staff should keep toilets clean, but I do have one thing I wish to vent about; what is WRONG with these people who visit public toilets, make such an unholy mess and don't clean up after themselves? Then when you make a visit and quickly leave, you look to others like the guilty party. I've never understood it and find it absolutely traumatising.0 -
For goodness sake...
I really don't want to go into more detail about what I found but I guess I need to now.
I had to lift up the lid, as it was closed, and the offending substance was all smeared all over the seat.
If you don't find that traumatising, then I envy your strong stomach.0 -
You've obviously never been to Glastonbury!0

Lol but Glastonbury toilets are a little different to those of a high street chain cafe which should have, in my opinion, clean toilets**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D

Yeah I know, I was talking to NattyVee really.
I complained to Starbucks about the state of their toilets and they sent me some vouchers for free drinks.0 -
So it does seem to be a problem across the board then? Not just caffe nero. I do wonder if it depends where you are, there's a Starbucks in Chiswick and their toilets are always clean, there's always soap and loo-roll!

I never go to Cafe Nero now, though I quite like their coffee. Every single store I have been to is full of dirty tables, and no one seems to bother clearing them (and, no, it's not because the staff are rushed on their feet, in fact they usually seem to be chatting). Why they think that customers are happy to sit at dirty tables, or clear them themselves, after having paid an extortionate price for a cup of coffee is beyond me.3-6 Month Emergency Fund #14: £9000 / £10,0000
