Arriva bus failed to stop for kids

My two boys were going to their Gran's after a club yesterday (Friday 11 December) because I was going out for the evening. They waited on the bus but it failed to stop and they had to wait another 15 minutes for the next one. There is only one service that takes them to their Gran's house but they were at the bus stop with a couple of friends which is why I think the driver went passed them. I have emailed a complaint to Arriva and will see what happens. I am disgusted that children are treated this way. The bus wasn't full either as it is only a local service. They were lucky it was only a 15 minute wait as my Mum sometimes has to wait 30 minutes for the bus on this service. There are no other bus companies on this route as Arriva always seem to run them off the road quite literally.

  • I see your point, but I don't deem it fair to generalise a company as 'disgusting' because of one or two incidents - if they are so bad to kids, why did the 2nd one stop to let them on??

This incident should really be complaining against the individual driver, but then again, you've got to give him a chance - maybe he was having a bad day, or maybe your boys did something to annoy him - stand in the road, etc - or maybe he just didn't see them??

  • Or the bus was full - there are laws on how many people can be carried on a bus at a given time.
  • We experienced this with the first bus company in Reading, a driver closed the doors and drove off when my friend and I were waiting to board (she was in a wheelchair). They were great, they checked CCTV, counted people and emailed a detailed account of the event. Although the issue waswith invisible prams onboard they still responded well, so I would say give arriva a chance to reply. Hey might surprise you like first did for me!

Alternativly chalk it down to experience and be thankful it wasn't raining!

Life is full of disappointments. Perhaps, for whatever reason, the driver simply wasnt aware of them?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Kids hang around at bus stops without wanting a bus all the time, maybe the driver thaught this was the case
  • I remember travelling on an Arriva bus in Milton Keynes once, pushing the button and going to the front in plenty of time for an official stop, but the driver didn't stop there, saying it wasn't an official stop.

I checked with Arriva, because it's listed on the travel planner website for Milton Keynes (I mentioned this politely to the driver as well as I stepped off the bus), and they came back and said that the driver should have stopped at it and let me leave the bus.
  • They're lucky only to wait a further 15 minutes. It would have been an hour here!

    Similar happened to me.

I don't usually use the bus, but needed to travel back to the garage to pick my car up. I saw the bus so I moved out of the shelter and next to the stop, holding my daughter in one arm and I was holding the folded up pushchair with my other hand. The bus sailed straight past me. Apparantly this was my fault as I didn't put my arm out to stop the bus

I waited for the next bus and struggled on with the baby and pushchair and the driver smirked and said "looks like you have your hands full there." He let me struggle to stow the pushchair, then grumbled because I didn't know the fare. Then had to look in my purse and I didn't have exactly the right money, so he grumbled because he had to give me 40p change.

Not a very good advert for getting people out of the car's and onto public transport
Here I go again on my own....
