    :jHello there.

    I work in a nursery/daycare which takes 3mnths - 8 years.

Most our children are totally dry not accident's during the day by 3-3.5 and parents have said a couple of their 2-3 year olds are dry at night. But we have a couple who are like 5-6 still struggling at night. Your little boy will let ya know when he is ready.

When the time comes for him to start wearing pants to bed i would advise the plastic sheet.. just because of the mattress getting stinky lol. Sticker charts are popular if u feel that would help but in the meantime let him tell u when he is ready :)

    Good luck! :) xx

my [4 years old on monday] DD is dry during the day but not at night. we hacve tried everything we can think of. she was dry one night and got her promised 'present' and then resorted to her old ways.

i believe she is just lazy and cant be bothered. we got her a torch so she could find her way to the toilet in the dark. but absolutely nothing wakes the girl including me trying to get her up for a wee when i go to bed.

my almost 2 year old DS however never wants to keep his clothes on and spends most days, if at home, naked. this is only recently ghis week that he point blanks refuses to be dressed. you literally have to hold him down and no sooner is he dressed then he undresses but has taken it upon himself to start using the potty. not all the time as the piddle patches im constantly cleaning on the carpet show but he has the idea.

hes a wrongun though. bless him/
There's someone in my head, but it's not me
  • My daughter was 5 when she was dry at night. Her 3 sisters were between 2 and 3 when they were dry but I didn`t worry about it as knew she would do it when she was ready.

    I agree with everyone else, I would't worry about it at 3 1/2. :)

Also, it's very common for younger boys to sit down- it takes time, you see. :D My DS1 didn't start standing up regularly for his wees until he started school. :)

My older son was 5 before he was dry every night. My younger was 3 and he has far more physical and SEN problems! I just kept buying the pull up nappies in bigger and bigger sizes. You can see they go up to quite an age (12, I think from memory) so there must be demand for them!
  • Plenty of kids still wet occasionally until much older. Your DS is too young for you to be worrying about it. I'd be more shocked (and suspicious of you) if you had said that he was completely dry! Really, by 4-5, the majority of children are dry with the occasional accident when they are very tired, ill or stressed, but plenty still aren't ready then.

BTW, Anthill, being a heavy sleeper isn't anything to do with being lazy. And it is possible to still be scared of the dark with a torch, as it makes scary shadows, even if she were to wake up in time.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

  • I wouldn't worry about it, and he is still very young.

My DS1 was toilet trained young at about 18m but didnt stop bedwetting till about 4 years old.
On the other hand my DS2 who it seemed like took forever to toilet train and eventually did it just after he was 3, toilet trained at night at the same time as daytime.

I am sure i have read somewhere that it is some signal to the brain that prompts them to wake up when they need the toilet when asleep, no amount of training or cajoling will make this happen, from what i can gather it is just a natural occurance.
  • Completely agree with everyone 3 1/2 is no age do not worry:D

My ds was 6 1/2 before he was dry, he went from everynight waking up wet to a lightbulb moment when he would wake then go to the loo, to sleeping all night!

I did see the school nurse as I was worried, who did say to much orange juice/ squash can trigger it, he would only drink orange or water so we took orange away!

Also I remember standing in the pre-school taking dd (who funny enough was dry at night at 2, so way before ds:rolleyes:) and something was said about there 3 yr old , so I told them about my 6 yr old who still did and it was more common than I thought, I think it is just a bit taboo to talk about lol

    Hang on in there hun;)
    it costs nothing to smile:D
  • My 9 year old still wets he's not bothered by it, and we don't make an issue of it. My SIL wet until she was 12.
