Hi,
I have spent aged today trying to resolve a new issue on my pc, I am getting a server not found error on some websites but not on others. The sites i've been trying to access today have been woolworths, littlewoods group and online banking but have not managed. I can access several other sites like argos, halfords etc. I noticed yesterday that my email kept loggin me out, something it's not done before?
I've not changed any settings (knowingly) although my pc did some automatic updates over night about 2 nights ago, I think.
I have windows vista + firefox (or Internet explorer, makes no difference). I've cleared my history, temp internet files.
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance,

Open Outlook Express, click on Tools, Options, and then click on the Connections Tab. You should see two options; "Ask before switching dialup connections" and "Hang up after sending and receiving". If there is a checkmark in Hang up after sending and receiving, remove it, close Outlook Express, disconnect from the internet, start OE again and see if this solved your problem. I get a call at least once a month from my dad saying can i come and fix his computer. This is the usual problem and it does throw symptoms similar to the ones you describe. He also swears he hasnt changed any settings. Maybe this is a bug in OE0

I have a feeling that this is an AOL issue as I have the exact same problems.
I have been unable to access Littlewoods or Halifax for a few days now, I have tried this from 4 different PC's (and a mac) all running different operating systems but with no success.
If I find a fix I will post it here.0 -
It could be the DNS or it could be the routing.
Open up a command box and type in..
tracert www.littlewoods.co.uk or whatever site you are interested in.
If it fails to resolve the url to an ip address then it's a DNS issue and you could try using www.opendns.com (instructions on the site)
It it gives up part way through with a timeout or other error then the problem is routing and there isn't a lot you can do about it other than trying to access the site through a proxy which will use different routing..

This is my tracert which indicates a routing problem (apparently within Littlewoods data centre going by the router name) and I'm with O2 not AOL...

I'm on AOL too, and have the same problem, started last week.0 -
It's an AOL problem, there's certain sites you can not access anymore. I've already contacted AOL and they are aware of the problem, sadly they don't seem to be in any hurry to fix it.0

Same problem here too. AOL should now be aware of the issue but how long are we expected to wait?0

Thanks to all for taking the time to reply.
I noticed a couple of other threads with the same issues.
I agree that this is an AOL issue, as I've had this problem since friday.
It's certain, (not only secure) websites. It's really annoying!!
I've found it to be Halifax, & all the catalogues (littlewoods group) so far.
At first I thought it was my pc but then when I tried the 2 other pc's and a laptop in the house it's the same errors. My mum & my daughter also AOL customers have the same problem.!
We don't use actually use aol, we're using firefox &/or IE, just the provider is AOL.
I can't believe AOL are being so casual about this problem...although my DH says its not a problem, if I can't shop I can't spend money !!
I'm not tied into a contract with AOL, so I think I'll be going else where for my broadband after this! :mad:pinkpinkfizz
