I make the system work for me. I get £15 per month out of Halifax and they don't get any money from me. And the reason is because I don't go overdrawn.
If you have an overdraft then the best option is to move banks. Some may not be able to move banks because they can't get an account elsewhere, and those people have my sympathy.
But for everyone else, either play the system or move.
No point moaning.
Right. I'll just magic up the 1000 that I owe from the £20 per week that I get to myself - from working - and then i'll force a bank to let me open an account. So dar 3 have refused.
It's that easy is it - GET REAL!0 -
I am absolutely gobsmacked by this thread. It is meant to be consumer help and I can see is patronising people who think that being poor is the crime of the century.
Lokolo - I did try 3 banks including Alliance and Leicester and each time they just reject me. I have managed my money well for 10 years but used to be an idiot when I was younger. I think I am still suffering.
I get very little money to myself and the worry of ahving my interest double next month is causing me lots of sleepless nights. I told Halifax I will have to close the account and repay them bit by bit but they said they wont close the account until its all paid off.
I don't mind paying the interest but I do think it unfair that those suffering are the people that will be using their overdraft every day. And they are obviosuly doing that for a reason. They cannot immediately pay it off because otherwise they wouldnt be using it in the first place if they had that cash just lying around.0 -

You get more than £20 a week if you're on benefits so stop making things up.
Secondly. Have you done a statement of affairs?
Thirdly. Have you looked at your credit report as there could be something on that that might help you determine why banks are rejecting you?
Fourthly. We are hardly patronising when you aren't even listening to anything we say! Don't like what we say, go elsewhere! We're all trying to be helpful even if it is a patronising smack on the a*** telling you to sort your money issues out.
There are a lot of people out there a bloody hell lot worse than you this Christmas so do me a favour and grow up.

p.s. if you haven't done a SOA you can do one here. http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html If you post the results either here or Debt Free Wannabe board people can see where you are overspending.0 -
Can I also make another improtant point here. People that use an agreed overdraft are not criminals. They are customers and are paying the bank well for the facility. The bank is not doing it for free. I keep hearing "oh but some people forget its the banks money" Yes, and we pay them well to borrow it. They are not doing us any favours. I just ask them to be fair with me and I do not feel they have done that. I am not asking for them to scrap their charges. Just dont put me in a financial mess and offer no constrictive assistance. I was very happy maanging my moeny until the Halifax decided to make tihngs easier for me. More like make tihngs more proffitable for themselves. How insulting and patronising.0

Please dont even bother responding to me with that attiutde. I have already stated quite clearly that the £20 was not my income but the income that I had "to myself" once all my debts are paid. The extra charges now has swallowed most of that up.
Please also dont assume I am on benefits - especially when I have already staated that I work - In a care profession - something far more rewarding than banking that allows me to sleep at night.0 -
Sinbin, if things get too bad, have a word with them at www.cccs.co.uk its a free charity that helps with debts, my neighbour had some issues, she got advice and help, a lot of her debst were written off and they approached the banks, only thing is it may damage chance of having an overdraft again, not sure, but at a £1 a day not such a bad thing0

I didn't say you were on benefits. I said people get more than that on benefits.

Even more reason to do a SOA. They will want him to do one anyway. And this is what the bank would need to see in order to do the '£1 a day' thing. It's called financial hardship.0 -

All of those things I could respond to but I won't because I cannot be bothered with your attitude. I came on here for help but was more angry at the attitude of some people. I am perfectly capable of helping myself out of this situation. I would have appreciated the help but not with conditions.
I won't be coming here again. Enjoy your smug little world.0 -

Thanks DJ. I appreciate that. I will give it a go. I have more than had my cage rattled with this website so I wont be coming back but I just wanted to say that I am at least heartened that there are some nice helpful unpatronising people on here with no hidden agenda. I do feel some people are just on here because they have little going on in their lives and they love to feel superior to other people.
I wish you a very merry christmas.0 -
Dont give them the satisfaction by not returning, there are some decent people around here. I dont visit often, but at times I may ask something or try to help if & when I can. unfortunately this poor behaviour is not forum wide, just seams to be a few financial sections.
Have a good and safe christmas too, if your not working over it.0
