I started cutting my own hair last year, dh does the back for me. I got a two pack of scissors from Boots, one pair are thinning scissors so i just do the length with those and it looks ok. Have been dying my own hair for about 20 years too, everytime i decided to let a hairstylist do it, they always made a !!!!-up. And ended up being charged about £70 for the privilege.

I just found this book on amazon
http://www.amazon.co.uk/How-Cut-Your-Own-Hair/dp/1579125921/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1208025222&sr=8-1 im not sure if its worth investing in a copy due to all the money im saving on going to the hairdresser (£35 a time cough splutter). Havent got time to go to college anymore, i used to go all the time, i had a drastric change once and they kept my hair to practise on!

Hi, I did not know where to post this , but really want to tell everyone about a great product I purchased
to help me cut my own hair.

Its called "creaclip" and they have their own web site with instructional videos.

I have used it to cut my daughters hair and my own hair and its fantastic.

    Hope this helps somebody. ;)

Interesting but I can't see it would be much use for short hair styles like we have - even the cuts for boys relied on there being a lot of hair to start with.

Is this the thing you put in your hair and pull it up/forward and use as a guide to cut?

I do a similar thing just with a hairband and no need to buy anything other than scissors. Works well - I had a load of compliments the first time I did it.

There are plenty of videos on youtube explaining better how to do it.

Where did you purchase yours from Mirry? I can't seem to see any on sale in the UK.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfYjF_kcvB0&feature=related this is an example of one video without using a creaclip - go to about 4 minutes to see the cutting and results quicker! There are plenty more.

This is a very good method too. Follow the link at the bottom of the page depending on the type of cut and there are very good demonstrations on how to do it. Its really easy, I have done my daughters and my sisters hair like this. You don't need anything fancy, just a pair of decent HD scissors
