I had a letter saying I was due nearly 2k back and when I rang them up the guy said that it was going to be paid directly into my bank account.
I was not aware I was due a rebate and told him this but he said I was.
The problem for me is that I have a debt repayment plan with my old bank and I would not want a cheque going there.
I rang up again today as I was told they would try and cancel the BACS and send a cheque.
When I spoke to the guy today he asked me the usual questions such as NI number full name and address and DOB and then said he couldn't answer any details because I had failed the security questions.
He suggested I write in and explain the situation.

You must have given him an incorrect answer Im afraid.
Any company has to be very strigent on Data Protection due to the finds, the company I work for is so tight we can fail our telephoe checks if we dont get the correct answers and then talk to a customer.
You are more than entitled to call back and aslong as you can answer the questions put to you they will discuss the acco!!!! with you. All thats possibly noted on your account is "customer called failed DPA" - Data Protection Answers. They wont refuse to talk to you if you pass all questions.
Have you moved recently so they have an old address?0 -

Surely if you were not aware you were due this money, it's a bonus yes? then let it go to the bank to pay off those debts.0 -
I meant fines emposed by the FSA for discussing an account when a customer fails Data protection0

I have a current account and an overdraft with the Halifax that I make minimum payments to and I would have liked to have paid something off them both.
AliBongo 54 No I haven't moved house or changed any details so I am a bit mystified what has happened.
I have written to them now and sent them a copy of their letter so hopefully it will be sorted one way or another.NSK Zombie # SFD 7/15 Food Bank £0/£5

For the repayment to be made straight to your bank account you must have supplied the details so they are only acting as instructed. I am assuming the actuals BACS transaction has taken place? If so it cannot be 'cancelled'. In certain circumstances it can be recalled but not for situations like this.0

It may be they have inputted your DOB incorrectly into their system so when you said your correct DOB it did not match up with their screen. When this happens to us we have to get the original application up on our screen.0

Was the letter genuine? I've heard so many stories of people trying to get bank details etc., and using many different methods to get details.0

I know from experience that Tax Office's sometimes hold a "temporary" nino. This could be the problem.
Are you self employed by any chance? If you are, have you went bankrupt? If this is the case then it may be the OR name and/or address on file (acting as a capacitor) This may also be the case if you have an IVA. Might be worth checking.

How do they already have your bank details?:heartpuls baby no3 due 16th November :heartpulsTEAM YELLOWDFD 16/6/10"Shut your gob! Or I'll come round your houses and stamp on all your toys" The ONE, the ONLY, the LEGENDARY Gene Hunt :heart2:0

What exactly did they ask you??? They must have asked you more than you've stated, as we have to ask 5 qu's and if you get 2 incorrect then its a lock out. Your NINO and address as HMRC hold it would have been on the letter sent to you, obviously your name, DOB, current or prev employer???0
