alternative to Smirnoff Vodka?

Is there an alternative to Smirnoff vodka? - one that tastes as good I mean. It's so expensive and I thought there might be something cheaper that someone could recommend.

    Hi papoosue,

Not being a vodka drinker I can't help but you may get more replies on the Food Shopping & Groceries board. This recent thread has some vodka offers:

Just got a good deal on Absolut vodka in Morrisons

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.
  • Finlandia Vodka is a superior alternative, and therefore it costs a few quid more, but definitely worth the extra.

i always buy the cheapest stuff available i.e the value stuff from tesco sainsburies or whoever , but have found from experience a decent mixer makes all the difference , the value cola doesnt make for a particularly appetising drink , goes all cloudy like pond water for some reason , i now try to get a decent cola or juice , also have found the supermarkets do a range of own brand value vodkas the cheapest one i actually prefer to the next dearest one

I'm a bit of a vodka buff, and can't drink Smirnoff; it gives me awful heartburn!
So I can't really advise you on anything cheaper, as that's cheap vodka to me! :o

Splash out a couple more quid and (as previously recommended) get some Finlandia at the least. Or Absolut which is highly drinkable, or Stolichnaya.

After that you're getting into Grey Goose/Belvedere territory, which is my absolute favourite :)

I had one at my local last week (they sell 40 types of Vodka :)) which was some Russian one, filtered with milk! That was really nice and smooth and had no ickly alcohol hit when you take your first drink. (Think it's called Parliament).

Oh and you must try Bison grass vodka (Zubrowka) with apple juice - there's something about it that makes it taste like apple pie! :)

    I love Grey Goose.

However, for cheap stuff like jelly shots and cocktails, I buy Morrinov.

If you can get the Absolut on offer in Morrisons I'd go for that. Keep it in the freezer (won't freeze) and you won't need any ice :D

There was a thread years ago on the Old Style board advocating buying the cheapest battery-acid style value vodka you could get, and filtering it multiple times using a water filter jug. Came out delicious apparently...

I am not a big vodka drinker but I do like Smirnoff Blue Label.

  • I can't drink the supercheap ones and tend to stick to smirnoff but if money's tight I go for a glens which is absolutely fine, it's about £11.70 for a litre in asda
