  • we go to his store a hell of a lot to get bits and pieces as well as coal so all this about notgo there many times of year is rubbish we have decorated and done alot to the garden, the only transactions i refused to deal with are the cash ones i feel that is being downright stupid although we have written small bits on each piece of paper so hears praying all will be ok, thanks Dvardys

Forgive me for harping on about this but ....

Are you SURE that the use of the card is strictly in line with the company's terms?

You admitting this use of the card may just be sealing your son's fate, if it's against the company's terms.
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)
  • If you are talking about any kind of limits on spending no we have used the card by the book

Glad you and your son got it all sorted!

20 years old is not very old. Employers take the !!!! out of younger people all the time. I've been in a few similar situations. I was unfairly dismissed TWICE from the same company. They were out to get me after I made a formal complaint against a manager for harassment when I was about 19. He was soooo weird-gave me employee of the month one week, then seriously, the following week gave me a disciplinary and put me on a final written warning for -persistant poor performance the next week just before he left to go to another store!!
Being young, I had no idea the correct procedures hadn't been followed, or that my complaint about him wasn't really dealt with.

So since then, following BOTH unfair dismissals, my Dad has helped me out and has even come to appeal meetings with me. Obviously couldn't afford a solicitor and wasn't in the union, so I had my Dad help me go through everything and support me in meetings.

Although it does look as if there is misuse of the card, the boys 20!!! He's working, trying, give them a break! Well done for helping your son out. He's probably learned an important lesson.

I have been following this thread from the beginning but refrained from posting any comments.

I am so glad your son only got a verbal warning, which as a HR person, I feel is fair under the circumstances. He wasnt entirely innocent in that he let other family members use his discount card, but he also isnt the devil incarnate!

I hope now he can move on with career and learn by this small mistake. Well done you for supporting him - I have a 19 year old and would support him too.

    Good luck to you both!
