I've had my iPhone for almost 18 months and love it to bits. To carry out the above, compose your text on your PC, email it to the phone and copy and paste it into an SMS and you can send it out to as many as you want.

that doesn't sound like a particularly efficient solution - might as well just type it on the iPhone itself

I've never used it myself, but IM clients like Windows Messenger or Yahoo Messenger allow messages composed on the computer to be sent to phones, though you need to have the recipient as a contact.
