Thanks Kosma1, i've never heard of greenmetropolis before, have just registered too. Looks brilliant! Good luck on the sale of your cat hair free rucksack!
Greenmetropolis is good in that theres no fee and easy to list but in my experience it won't make you rich, I have sold a book every few months on there even though got lots listed.....if anyone has made a killing on that site please let me know where I am going wrong! Don't want to dampen your spirit just don't want you to sit there thinking it will be quick profit. I have had more success swopping books on readitswapit than selling them anywhere! But as I said before I shall try Amazon....I have 2 signed books here so they may be worth putting on....0 -

If percentage thats fine with me as all relative then
I am avoiding the cheap ones. Fees are a combination of fixed fee (86p for books for instance), large percentage (17.25%) and a portion of the postage depending on what you are selling (49p for books). You do get £2.75 for postage unlike ebay which is free delivery. Big heavy books that are going to cost more to post need to have this factored into the price when deciding on viability of listing. Still learning my way around it but I have had a few sales in the last couple of weeks, so will see how it pans out in the medium to long term."I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand." — Confucius0 -
hmmmm maybe Amazon isn't a goer for me then, seems expensive, I don't like the idea of a fixed fee and a percentage! I mean if a paperbook goes for £3.00 you wouldn't make much, probably not worth the hassle unless you got niche books or academic ones etc that are costly in first place which may mean a greater market for them 2nd hand?0

victoriaplum- start listing your items on Amazon and before you click the confirmation button, it will show you exactly what amount you will receive if you sell.
You can compete against the 1p sellers - some are abroad, some have terrible feedback, and some only have one copy so when that sells you will have more chance of selling !
My cousin and I both sell on Amazon, and the same books too. Quite often I will sell a copy and he wont, and he is always cheaper than me ! The only difference is feedback - mine is better !!VR repayment £404 £156.02 PAID
Airpods repayment £249 £185 £75.90 PAID
Airpods repayment £144 £99.01 PAID

On Amazon, when choosing the condition of the book (be painfully honest judging by feedback I have read around the site) you can choose "Collectible". You then get the opportunity to explain why you consider it collectible and then you set your price accordingly. Hope this helps."I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. think I may take myself off to bootbay website try and get the bootie stuff on, as that could beat standing outside at proper bootie on a freezing morning at god knows o clock trying to sell it, though that is strangely good fun, well until the puntes want it all for nowt anyway. Wonder how many people buy on bootbay?0

Great thanks for the tips re Amazon, handy that it tells you upfront what you would get, that makes it sound a bit more viable for me, I am not the best with profit margins I tend to guess(!) if I can't work it out easily!0

Do you find many people give feedback or is it a pretty low percentage compared to the likes of ebay?"I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand." — Confucius0 -

I think GM will work for me because most of the books I have are being listed on amazon for 1p! So i'm happy to list them on GM and just wait till they sell. Your 2 books with signatures will be great, maybe ebay tho? Then you dont have to set a price (if you dont know how much someone is willing to pay), the buyers set a price (by bidding) as to how much they think they are worth - they're only worth what someone is prepared to pay, says my estate agent OH! But same goes for everything.'It is better to live your own destiny imperfectly than to live an imitation of somebody else's life with perfection' Elizabeth Gilbert.

Don't have any experience with the site but from what it sounds it seems more about what the site itself is doing wrong - advertising. Since you and others had not heard of it before. And when looking at reviews for the site on the net almost all of them seem to be about selling books rather than buying them. And selling to others trying to shift their own books is probably tricky.
Its similar to some other sites I'm on, I like their services and costs better but the traffic is less than some of the top dogs. Therefore if I want to sell more there I end up having to do my own promotion. Or suffer the higher fees/services of the top dogs. With books I guess you could go to book/reading related forums, book club sites, reading group sites etc. And let them know some of the books you have on offer with links to your Greenmetropolis account. Just don't act spammy and maybe contribute to each forum first unless they have a dedicated advertising/book selling section in which case go for it! Marketing/promotion is a big topic though and if you haven't got the time/desire for it I can understand.
If the fees are less for you though then it may be that the fees are also less for the customer so this would be the key point to convey to anyone you meet. Some Amazon sellers I find sometimes up their prices to cover Amazon fees and therefore sometimes its better going to their own site rather than buying from them through Amazon. Don't know if you can list another website on your Amazon account though.0
