    Hi all,

I have been a member of this site for some time but have not been present for a while.

Whilst surfing on MSE i noticed this thread which is very interesting.

I have had a serach but couldn't find a lot of entries from pure poker players. I would be interested in trying to turm £100 into £10k via poker but don't know if this is the right thread to do so, what do u think, or should i start athread for pure poker players?

    Steve

Don't think there are any rules ... whatever floats your boat. If you have the skill and determination to turn £100 into £10,000 via poker, good luck to you. Personally, despite having a quick head for the odds, I don't go anywhere near the game ... too many sharks in the water for my skill levels :). Good luck with it.

Phew! Just caught up with all the posts in this thread. It's like trying to run after a moving car! There's some great ideas on here, some of which I'm going to try. Upto £85 so far thanks to Bingo Britain - just won another £50 yesterday.

For all those of you that don't have any money to start off with, don't worry as there's loads of ways of making money from nothing, then once you've got a bit you can start buying to sell on if you like. The best ways I've found of making money without any initial investment are:

    1. Cashback websites - daily clicks, no spend offers (dvd rental trials are good for this)
    2. Writing reviews - I've used dooyoo and bview but there are others
    3. Selling stuff you already own and want rid of - take advantage of free listing offers on ebay and have a punt.
    4. Readers letters and tips to magazines - womens magazines are good for this, or so my wife says. I've had some luck with tv magazines as most pay at least £10 for a published letter of only 50 words, more for a star letter
    5. Surveys & Mystery Shopping
    6. Nil spend bingo and other gambling offers
I will be aiming for my 10k with a mixture of making stuff to sell on folksy, etsy etc at craft fairs, writing, cashback, selling stuff on Amazon/ebay and anything else I can think of.

Tip for anyone selling on Amazon marketplace - it may seem obvious but you don't have to sell yours for the lowest price. People change their prices all the time, the cheaper ones may sell out and then yours is left etc. I'm helping my wife sell loads of her dad's DVDs he is getting rid of - we've listed about a hundred and don't want to sell too many at once so put our prices at least £1 above the lowest price. We've still sold 10 in the space of a week!

Another idea which may be of use to someone: At my work there is a 'Tuck shop box' filled with chocolate bars, drinks cans, crisps etc. Someone brings the box round and leaves at reception, with a price list and tub for money inside. Periodically they refill the box and collect money. Don't know how much they make, but if you had time and transport, you could do this for quite a few offices/workplaces, buy the stuff cheap from Macro or somewhere and put a decent mark up on it. People will always buy the stuff as they are bored/hungry at work and don't usually have accesss to a shop mid afternoon for that chocolate fix.

Final word for now - don't let anyone knock this challenge, and say it's impossible or unrealistic. They don't know a good thing when they see it, and are probably just jealous because they don't have the ideas/drive/inclination/get up and go to do anything. It is achievable and those of us that don't manage 10k will still have done really well and achieved something. If you don't aim high you never get anywhere.

Anyway that's my tuppence worth for now, best get back to work. Good luck everyone!

Really stuck today, have got some stock coming but it is held up because of the snow. Spent the last 6 hours looking at wholesale sites etc but just can't decide on whats best to buy-really want to get started but don't want to rush into things either and end up buying some rubbish!
    Must get brain into gear!

Time spent researching is all time well spent. There is no point rushing headlong into something that you haven't worked out all the angles on. Having said that, when you do take a well informed punt on an idea, give it everything you have got ... if it works, brilliant ... if not, dust yourself off, learn from it and move to the next idea. Sometimes the mess ups lead to the best of inspirations if you are open to them.

Very helpful post all through but particularly this bit for me ... I have a few things on Amazon and some of them happened to be the cheapest on there but they were immediately undercut by a penny. Just out of interest I played with a couple of the listing prices to see how people reacted and people kept undercutting by a penny. I have revised my prices to what I want for them and will wait and see how it goes ... with books I am not expecting really quick sales so feel OK playing the waiting game.

Having checked the value of some really good books and finding them to be "worth" very little I have also taken the executive decision to keep them on my bookshelf so that I can continue to enjoy them ... some are worth many multiples of their weight in gold.

  • All these busy bees and I haven't even got started :embarasse I live in a small flat, and moved to Spain a few years ago, so I haven't accumulated too much stuff to declutter. I do have some things that I want to get rid of, though, so I'm going to put them aside for the local flea market which is held monthly. Not sure I can be bothered with Ebay - I don't have enough bits to sell and I wouldn't know what to buy to resell.

Can anyone recommend where I can set up a free or cheap website (nothing fancy) to do tarot/psychic readings? Got to get started! Any other ideas I can try out?

When I joined this thread I mentioned I had about 10K of debt but had been hiding from it as we do...
Anyway today I faced up to it all and have £10,600 on cc and loan outstanding of about 2k.
So I've applied for a Virgin Credit Card (obvs on advice from this LOVELY site... why didn't I face up to sooner...oh don't beat yourself up Jodda...you've done it now...) and online it says I've been accepted for full £10k at 0% interest for 16 months!
Am made up, it's odd but feels good to be in control of it and feel I can see light at the end of a VERY long tunnel.
They won't change their mind will they???
So now need to get listing on ebay and start making some money to meet the monthly payment. I currently pay about £400 off my other cards so if I can up that to £625 each month I'd clear the whole balance in the 16 months!
    Wahay..
THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR FAB SUPPORT!!! mwah (i'm filling up...)
