Of course, it's a bit radical, but you could just buy a Ford, says he smugly, with its heated screen, mirrors, back window, and air con, plus rapid demist. Problem solved....
  • its worth putting a fan heater into your motor and running it for a few hours (under supervision of course) with the sunroof open, this will help dry out any existing moisture in the car and reduce the problem.

if your only doing short journeys, then the car will be damper.

Yes, but where is it now!!

    As did my 1991 Rangerover.

Shown73, can the ford detect a bulb out like the 1985 Rover SD1 I had? (I say smugly).
And come on, the rapid demist is a button that puts everything full and to the windscreen (yes, I have a Ford).
  • The rangerovers on the road used by a local mechanics wife and the SD1 is probably in Ayrshire.

Alright, I surrender, but you must admit that the Ford system works, and is streets ahead of many, more expensive, cars. If memory serves, my XR4i had a bulb failure warning system, what's new....Probably someone will pop up and tell us about a 1920's something or other that had all these things as standard, there is very little that hasn't been tried already.

All thats happened is that its been refined. The Ford demisting front screens great when you come off a nightshift and dont have to scrape the windows. (In, start car, the front and back demister comes on automatically if its cold, switch the heated seats to 5, give it a minute then go)

As far as the XR4i bulb thing goes, they probably stole it from Rover lol.

I have a 1987 Ford Sierra with heated wingmirrors. For detection of blown bulbs, I use my eyes (smugly).

you could try this http://www.lakeland.co.uk/F/productreviews/21109 lakeland do a couple of other products. I think though you should check that the lakeland guarantee is quite good. I see some folk thought it was good and some not so. seems that it works ok in small spaces like a car. there is also on amazon a device for £20 which is a small dehumidifier - I didn't see any feedback so personally I wouldn't go for it. Funnily enough I have this problem with my ten year old ford. for me the worst case is in the heavy frost because I end up de icing inside and out. I think you have to go for it from different angles. don't leave the damp cloth in the car etc try and dry it out, don't recycle the air, etc etc ther is also a liquid apparently which you can get from halfords which you wipe on teh inside of the screen which is supposed to help.
