Pets are children for a lot of people aren't they. Which I think is just as it should be, I mean I wish everyone loved animals and looked after them as they would a child.

We have not long gotten a kitten :j but I will get him a little present or two.
Probably get him a few little toys (if it stops him clawing my couch ill be happy) and some wet meat (he normally gets dry)

Xmas should be fun this year. First year with OH in our house, babies first xmas and the kittens first xmas :j

In Denmark we have a slightly different take on the whole thing... firstly we celebrate Christmas on the 24th in the evening :) But the 23rd is "the animals christmas"... so you hang out the fat balls for the birds or put something down for all the wildlife you may have in your garden and you give your pets treats etc :) I'm not sure we'll do that this year as ours always seems to be a mishmash of Danish and English Christmas but if I get time I am going to try to :)

Mrs Tine would you mind moving my above post to the thread about Whats your dog called. Thank you

As for this thread DD wants to buy her all sorts (including clothes which I think is cruel) but I spend so much time clearing up dog toys I'm trying to prevent her. I might get her a juicy bone from the butcher
Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!

This year is my first year with a 'proper' pet at Christmas (I did have goldfish a few years ago, and I'd even buy them a new tank decoration or some new pretty stones :D) so she'll definately be getting some pressies. I'm getting her the Da Bird, a Whiskas stocking, and possibly a laser pen too. Also a big scratching post tower, but she'll be getting that before Christmas so it doesn't count. My mam would always but my brother's cat Phoebe a Christmas present and send a 'To the Cat' card, and she says I'm a big softie when it comes to my cat! :rotfl:

    Done... :)
Kira btw will have a hide chew or 2 - IF I can get it then a fresh bone from the butchers (depends on the queues ) and probably a new toy like the plastic bottle with a rope in it that you can stuff with food...
The baby on the other hand... well I'm stumped! :rotfl: She has too much as it is! But DH won't hear of only buying a few boring bits like clothes! bless him... :)

So lovely to read all these and see how many people are nice to critters (as opposed to those who are not). Me, I love kittehs, they are adorable.

I don't buy the tripod Xmas presents.... however oh's mum came to visit proudly bearing an advent calendar for cats. The furball's got herself a growing fan club catering to her every whim and adoring her.

  • My puppy comes home on Saturday so this is his first Christmas and he has a stocking hanging next to mine and my husbands, We have got lots of toys and a few treats for him to enjoy. To my surprise, Wilkinson's actually have quite a selection of cheap dog toys/treats. We also got stuff from Sainsburys, Tesco's and PAH - basically everywhere we went that had dog stuff!!!

I have to buy all the pets in our household a present but its mainly for the benefit of my daughters! They are 22 and 19 but would complain if the pets didn't get anything from Santa!

So DD1's horse gets a pack of polo mints, her rats get rat treats from the petshop, DD2's guineapigs get guineapig treats and the dogs get a selection of toys and chews each!

I must admit though that I would feel mean if the pets didn't get something from Santa along with everyone else!
