HELP!! Speeding ticket and only been driving 6 months!
Options
Hey
Only been driving six months, got a letter through today saying Newcastle under lyme police have my car going through a 30 at 40. It was one of those roads where the limit changes half way, must of missed the sign being a newish driver, I never speed normally
. I have to confirm I am the keeper of the car at this stage, then what happens?
My licence is only 6 points for 2 years, so three points is a big issue! I really need to drive as am at uni 300 miles from home but have to go home to see my ill dad a lot. Am in such a panic, any chance I can pay to go on a course or something!
Thanks!

If this is your first 3 points then all you is stick to the speed limits in future and you won't have to worry about being caught again
Or did you mean you've already got 3 points and this would be your second time caught speeding so you're going to lose your license?Future Mrs Gerard Butler

No much you can do but pay up, slow down and dont forget to let your insurance company knowmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
personally i would only use the car for essential trips now, would be annoying to loose the licence0

Statistically everyone will eventually be caught out on main roads where there is constant switching between 30 and 40.
Have an up to date satnav with camera warning switched on at all times.0 -
More than ever before driving requires 100% concentration. The requirements for increased concentration has come at a time when there are ever more reasons to be distracted - phones, satnav, mp3 players etc etc. All can cause distraction for long enough for you to miss a speed limit sign, camera etc etc.
As a new driver you are now starting to learn - the best advice anyone gave me when starting out was to do a commentary in your head about the way you are driving and what you are seeing. What are the hazrads, what signs can you see, how fast are you going, what gear are you in, what colour is the car behind you etc etc. It worked for me.
It also makes you realise just how much concentration driving does take.0 -
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but I'm pretty sure that the course you do is aimed at 'low end speeders' which I think is up to 39 in a 30. It should be able to tell you on your local safety camera partnership website. Did you not get a form with the letter giving you your options? Thats where you get the offer I believe. I know what you mean about the 6 points thing as I've not long passed, I've told my partner that if I get three points then the car is going off the road till its been two years. I'm a bit paranoid about it so usually end up the only one keeping to the limit round my way!Saving for a deposit. £5440 of £11000 saved so far:j0

I suspect it is even lower than that. I had a 37 in a 30 zone in Suffolk - no course offered. I think they only give it for those doing 33-36mph.
Good advice about the website - another useful site is Pepipoo for this kind of thing.0 -

There are 2 issues here, being newly qualified you should be more aware of road signs than people who have been using the same road for years.
Secondly to get caught at 40 odds on your speedo was indicating 44mph or more. The speedos are typically out by 10%, personal experience by using 4 different sat navs with speed indicators in 10 different cars.
I have been caught speeding before and that was my fault. Just take more care and slow down for the next 18months. The 6 point limit is there for a reason, newbies statistically crash more often and/or speed.New PV club member. 3.99kW system.
