The engineering support services side of the BBC was really highly regarded in the past. How true that is now I don't know.

I heard the same thing in the past (20 years ago).

I'm not sure something as niche as that could be described as the envy of the world. The envy of the engineering community or something may be better???

Only going on what I was advised by the person in the training dept at 1 particular LA. Admittedly this was 2 years ago. However the person in question was responsible for training the finance team, so I have no reason to doubt them.

I believe it will vary from LA to LA.

Re the 30% - I was taking info from published accounts from my local LA (always a good read !).

On another subject - for info just spoken to my contact in LA finance dept who says they're planning 10% staff cuts in each of next 2 years.

I work in the education sector now. I am gobsmacked to learn that 1 union in particular (UCU) is balloting for strike action as they want a pay rise of 6%!

I'm just glad to have a job. I'm amazed at the unrealistic mindset of some people...
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Yep, tax meat-eaters with the purpose of reducing numbers of farmed animals. I'm all for that. :p

If they put twice the funding into the BBC I'd willingly pay double.

The BBC is one of the few things in the UK which is not foreign owned, and which still enjoys world class reputation.

Exactly my view. I love the BBC and miss it whenever I'm overseas.
