Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Thursday 10th December. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Christmas QOTD: 'I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.' ~ Charles Dickens
HSsnowwelcome.gifOwens3 - Good to have you with us
Haribo - Good luck at the neuro today, will be thinking of you hon
Pink - Glad to hear your MIL is making a good recovery
SunnyGirl - hugs for your friend
Purple - Winter sunshine sounds like a lovely idea, what a nice OH you have!
Morwenna - thank you for the tip.. just need to find someone with a dishwasher so I can acquire a tab!
Rosy - So sorry to hear about your auntie - my heart goes out to you.
Bitsy - I cannot cope with having drops put in my eyes either. Cannot even do it myself, it make me feel extremely icky. Hope your son and daughter feel better soon.
Tru - I don't drink but lurveeee minstrels, thank you.
jc - I think the company were negligent in how they handled your son. Being knocked out is serious and he could have had concussion - I hope it's entered in the accident book and that if he feels sick or anything today he doesn't work. I am not surprised you felt like strangling someone!
Cranky - Pixel looks sooo cute! Thank you for posting the picture
Marie - it went through the washing machine twice and is still there virtually untouched. That stuff is amazing! Just a shame it was my new and darkest sheet.
Zippy - Glad you had a nice time picking your christmas pressies from your mum. Retail therapy can be SO therapeutic. giggle.gif

xmastree.gifMy OH was in Totnes yesterday and in the butchers window there was a turkey that was 17 kilos! Even with my bad maths I know that is over 37lbs. I cannot conceive the size of the oven needed for a bird that size..

xmastree.gifWashed the shower curtains today.. Gave the worst mouldy bits on the seam at the bottom a dunk in neat bleach and then ran them through the washing machine with vinegar and bleach and they are so clean now my OH made me giggle by coming into the lounge with his sunglasses on after having his shower. (he wasn't wearing much else but that was probably TMI for anyone this time of the morning but that HONESTLY wasn't the reason I was laughing!!giggle.gif)

xmastree.gifIt's the last day of posting for the USA today and I haven't finished my parcel but will do that this morning and my OH will take it to the post office after lunch. I am fairly sure it will make it there before christmas but as long as it gets there! I was pleased with the way Tristans card turned out in the end and for the first time in ages I sat and wrote a letter. Felt odd cos I am so used to typing emails to everyone or just sending notecards with a few lines on.

xmastree.gif Lunch will be char grilled chicken breast (had an odd one in the freezer so cooked it last night - good decluttering I thought!) in a sandwich with HM coleslaw and some chilli sauce and dinner is TBC as it may well end up being a take away.

I hope today is the very best it can be for everyone and that anyone feeling poorly feels better soon. With love and light and grouphug3.giffor all.

Morning MSD. All is well here I think. The rain has stopped and it's getting cooler, which I would much rather have.
    2 days of course left
    9 days till holiday flights
12 inches of snow fell yesterday
    -16 temperature tonight there
-30 windchill feeling due to high winds. :snow_grin:snow_grin
I think it will be a bit warmer when we get there, but still below 0...

Packed lunch, bins, shower, drive 80 miles and course today and then a Christmas do tonight for school governors.. Should be OK I hope. They always pick rubbish venues, but I have not been to this one before.
Well folks, Have a nice day......

Damp & misty here again, but it makes for a lovely walk to work.
DW & WM both on, hubby will empty both later.
Work today & tomorrow will entail producing 1000 mock exams & 1500 diaries on top of normal work load. Lets hope the caretakers remember to put paper in the 3 rooms it's needed in, they haven't done it for the last 2 weeks, I've had to do it. Lets hope the cleaner was able to find my bin to empty, she's missed it so far this week & I've had to do it, (it's a full sized dustbin, so hard to miss). Lets hope the copier engineer turns up today, they are on a guarenteed 4 hour response & so far it's been 3 days!
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Good morning Diva & N9eav and all who follow.

Diva I nearly choked on my coffee laughing, when reading about your OH with his sunglasses for the glare from the shower curtain and not much else :rotfl:

Cranky Years ago we had a cat who used to shamelessly offer herself to our resident greyhound. She was very lucky that he was not remotely bothered about small animals which is probably why he was retired from racing :D

Bitsy & HeavenLeigh Hope the little ones are showing signs of improvement today.

nmlc Great news for your Dad!

Haribo Good luck today at the hospital.

Cold again here when we first woke up, it absolutely p***ed it down last night  it was very noisy too!

I didn't end up making the cheese scones yesterday I made some soda bread instead & it was delicious still warm from the oven with butter on
We were so full after our lunch of soda bread & spicy lentil soup that we didn't want any dinner last night so I've already got tonight's made! It's chicken curry with rice & flatbreads. The children all had beans & scrambled eggs on toast. Lunch today will be more soup but maybe minus the soda bread this time!

I am ironing today and going to town for the library & some wrapping paper :rudolf:

Have a good day all & big hugs where needed.
  • Morning MSD, N9eav & all to follow.

Bit quiet on here this morning, hope everyone is having a lie in!

Didnt catch up with the thread yesterday, will try later.

Today is running errands, need to drop off OH's car at garage but first need to pick up a parcel from the post office, garage is walking distance luckily so that makes life easier.

Home then for some office work, then when OH gets up (is on nights) we must go through the garage insurance list, then head off to Asda for some more beer for our drivers Xmas box.

Don't think there is enough time in the day, have a meeting at 3.45 however do have very easy chicken stir fry tonight.

Had a nice day shopping with OH yesterday, good and bad news in that Paperchase has opened up in our nearest big town - good news as its my favourite shop - bad news for my purse!:rotfl:My daughter has a hosp appointement near Tottenham Court Road on Monday and apparantly there is a Paperchase there that is 3 stories high!:j look forward to that.

Anyway off now, have a great day.x

    Morning all,

First of all Haribo, good luck for you today, hope all goes well, I shall be thinking of you x

Tired Mum, could you keep your fingers crossed for a bit longer :D still have not heard anything , and its driving me mad now, we probably have until tomorrow to exchange contracts, I will spend a lot of today on the phone I expect.

We had our Xmas do at work yesterday, it was great fun and lovely food, I had crispy duck salad for a starter, steak with a peppercorn crust, and chocolate and orange cheesecake, it was delish, and I had far too much wine :o:o but I had a very early night and feel ok now :T

Off to work agin today, and I need to have a good tidy round here tonight, and do a wash, sainsbugs are delivering too.

Hugs where needed, have good days xx

Hester please, if you continue to wipe the back sides of people not doing their jobs they will continue not to do it and then it will become your job permanently, report the failures to your direct line manager and ask him/her to arrange to correct the omission else the work cannot be done explaining nicely that you are unable to do your own task while doing others;). DO NOT DO THE TASKS. Inadequate managers take the easy option unless you show them the way.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    Takes stroppy head off.

Hope everything is OK today H-J

Morning all - off w*rk today which is just as well as I've been the star on top of a family and friends telephone tree most of the night. Dsis-in-law gave birth to Tallulah Pixie this morning - I'm afraid i snorted at the name a bit thinking it was a joke name just like when youngest dd, who didn't have a proper name for 8 weeks, was known to the world as Baby Scrumptious.

Today i have a whole hour and a half to do 90% of the christmas shopping so wish me luck - also need to finalise christmas menu and work out a plan for bringing it home after work in dribs and drabs having missed all the sensible deivery dates

tea will be summat out of the freezer which is waaaay too full at the moment - trouble is we're pretty much down to the Unidentified Frozen Objects

    have good days all
I'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 2008

    Morning all

No rain here at the mo! Chilly but bright. Have woken with a bit of a cold and sore throat this morning but DS2 had the same this time last week and just had 2 days of cold and was then ok, so hope I will be the same. DS2 had a nice birthday yesterday as niece and nephew came for tea and they loved the HM pizza and said "this is the best pizza ever" as they only have frozen pizza. (my sister is a brilliant cook, much better than me but her and her OH have demanding jobs so time is an issue), but nevertheless has made me feel good! OH had fish, mash and baked beans and I had leftover HM lasagne and salad, I did have a tiny sliver of DS1's choccy birthday cake but it was very sweet and whilst I enjoyed I don't want anymore! Had forgotten to get the sausages out of the freezer to defrost overnight for tonight's dinner but OH woke me when he got up to go to work (he's on early turns) so had a coffee and got sausages out then so they should be defrosted. Will be having potatoes, veg and gravy with them or may do toad in the hole.

Bought a new black cardigan yesterday but it gapes just at boob level so will be taking it back today to get bigger size but a absolute bargain at £6! It will go nicely with my new skirt or trousers.

WM engineer coming today am hoping so much that he can fix it (as have used mum's but dad having to rest after angio on Tuesday so she's busy running around after him so don't want to add to her workload).

Will possibly get to the scales today - am expecting a stay the same or a weight gain after the weekend away - drank way too much alcohol - think that may tip the scales the wrong way! Will just draw a line under it, apart from the birthday cake haven't had anything I shouldn't so am already putting right any damage.

Today's jobs consist of drying and ironing the washing I collected from mum's yesterday - which is all washing from Saturday to now so that will keep my out of mischief for a while! Need to do housework - whole house, do shopping list for tomorrow, write some Xmas cards as bought stamps yesterday but have just realised I don't have enough cards!

    No other OS to report.

Have to go now, keep safe and well, hugs to those that need them.

It's beautifully sunny here this morning :)

I'm a tad annoyed though, when I woke up I had gottena text late last night from one of my closest friends telling me she can't make my party Saturday night because her Mum has booked a family meal that night  I'm really annoyed because she was the first person I checked with a month ago to see if she was free! She was v apologetic but I think I'm just gonna cancel the party now. It was only a small get together with 6 of us, pre-Xmas drinkies because I'm not here for Xmas, and we usually do it Xmas Eve. But if she isn't coming, then I know 2 of my other friends won't come cos this friend was going to drive them here. And the other 2 who are stil coming are non drinkers so I don't want to get drunk on my own!! Grrr! However it may be a blessing in disguise cos I still haven't started packing for NZ and have lots of stuff to do so now I won't loose all of Sat to prepping, cooking food and tidying, and Sunday with a hangover!

    Rant over.

More Santa's Grotto in work today, then need to go to M&S to get some new bra's as the underwire starting poking out of one of mine yesterday.

    Have good day all

  • Good morning all,

Diva, the comment about your hubby and the sunglasses just made me choke on my coffee! lmao.
N9eave Hope you have a wonderful time tonight x
Sunny, look at you being so organized, wish i was half as organized as you!.
Essex, hope your dd's hospital appointment goes well and i hope your purse isn't too heavily battered by paperchase lol
Haribo, good luck for Today x
Redruby, fingers and legs and toes crossed for you today..
Hugs to all in need of them x

Logan slept well last night so that was a bonus, hopefully he is on the mend. It is his school nativity today and he had spent months rehearsing, never mind cant be helped, hopefully he will be back next week in time for his party.
Lots of jobs to do today I have 20 sausages that need using up but i really dont want to go to the shops to buy anything so i think it will be a case of throw a few tins and herbs in the slowcooker and hope for the best!
Can't believe it is 2 weeks until christmas eve, so much to do so little time! (if i got my backside off of here i might get more jobs done! lol)
I will save my tesco £1 savings stamps this year! .......so far = £50 (full card#1)
Card #2 £6. I will not be skint at Chistmas this year!

    Total £56
