Sadly my nearest Home Bargains is about 100 miles away. However, I have just found out that there is a B&M about half an hour away. Could anyone tell me what the B&M in Slough is like and if it is worth the journey?!

    Thankyou

Hi the Slough one is my local too, I go there regularly to buy cheap snacks for the cinema etc. It's not bad, is a decent size, not too big but not too small either. Occasionally it gets a little busy, but nothing too extreme. I'm not sure if it'd be worth going out of your way just to go there though, is there anything in particular you're after? I could have a look for it next time I'm there. :)

I used to get dragged around the Cleveleys store by my mum..i hated it! It was always SO busy and you could hardly move in there with small aisles. Because we lived in the area we used to go ALOT

Haha, are you me?! It user to be a full on day trip, disguised as a 'treat' as I got to choose a (cheap) toy to buy and then have a quick go in the arcade in the next street...ahhh memories! :rotfl:

Thank you for your help. I'm not really interested in food bits - I was wondering if they had nice stationery bits and pieces, toys for little ones, party bag bits etc.

For anyone who is lucky enough to have a B&M and a Home Bargains nearby - are the shops pretty similar?

    Thankyou

I'm not sure if it's the same across the whole of each chain but the stores I've been to seem to be pretty similar except B&M seems to have more (and better) household items than Home Bargains, especially soft furnishings, bedding & home decor etc. From my experience HB seems to focus more on toiletries and food than anything else. I don't really look at the toys so can't help on that but I find the stationery selection nicer and cheaper in HB rather than B&M.

Overall I prefer B&M but that's probably because I tend to buy a lot of household items.

There is a new B & M store opening next Tuesday in March. It's where Focus was. I don't know the name of the road but it's opposite Tesco on Hostmoor Road. HTH.
that's gonna be humongous if it uses all the store floor!

No worries. I've seen the stationary/toys aisle but not much stationary from what I recall, I'll try and have another look if I go past it this week. :)

It's a Jamie Oliver Pepper Grinder :) Its lush! Very tactile. Comes full of pepper too. It was hidden away in the food section of my local store with the salt etc

Well today I visited both stores. Couldn't find anything at all worth buying in B&M but bought loads of lovely stationery in HB. Perhaps it just depends on the day?!?!

I prefer home bargains. They are neater and tidier have more space and better offers. I have never walked out of a home bargains empty handed (and a lot of the time have a list of things in my head to go back in for when I have more cash). B&m are often dirty, dingy, hardly any space, and sell out of date food that they don't actually inform you is out of date! However, b&m are better for things like household nic nacs (cushions, storage, shower curtains, kitchen utensils etc). Still I'm never excited to see what I may find in b&ms

Seconded. Our B&M is awful and every visit disappoints. Home Bargains, however, rarely fails to produce some good finds. A shame our nearest one's miles away, though.
