    Sounds great. Will try soon.

Also sounds like a great opportunity to make nice crunchy meringues (don't waste the "heat" in the oven as my mother would say...)

By coincidence, I got 5 bags of organic apples for £2.40 today so I'm going to give it a whirl. I'll let you know what they turn out like.

    AAARGH!!!

I've got an oven full of apple rings and now there's apple juice steaming all over the floor!?!

Wasn't expecting this. What do I do with the next batch? Should they be in trays with sides to catch the juice instead of on sheets? Will that not keep them wet and stop them drying out?

    Help appreciated!!! Thanks.

Just off to wash the floor now... :D

Oh, I don't have dowling etc to thread them on but that sounded like a great idea.

Lots of wooden spoons? Across a casserole dish?

You might even get smoked apple that way :)

Utterly and completely scrumptious! My son has asked for more 3 times already. Thank you for the recipe idea!

I tried this yesterday with some pears only I forgot to soak them in saline, they are still yummy though. maybe they won't last as long. Will try again at the weekend and will use the saline solution and will report on the difference.

  • I have been drying apples as snacks for a while now.

What you do is cut apples into rings and place them in the oven on a low setting for about 6 hours

I then coat them in a mixtue of Cinniman and sugar the children love them.

Its a good one for when you see apples reduced.

I am going to invest in a dehydrator to make it easier and to save the cooker being on so long.

Hiya, and welcome to Old Style :)

We have an older thread on drying apples (and other fruits) somewhere about the place and as soon as I find it again I shall merge your post into it.

Since posts are listed in date order you'll need to read from the beginning to catch up with us all :)
