    Chris is absolutely spot on here. I couldn't understand myself how you can go on the internet to that address without actually having it set up, but you can and it does work!

    Because you are not actually connecting to the INTERNET, you are connecting to the router!

    When I go onto the address quoted (192.168.1.1) it always says page cannot be displayed, even when online

    Is there a light on for the Ethernet port that you are connecting to on the router?

    What do you get when you right click on Status in the Local Area Connection icon in your system tray down by the clock display?

    espresso, I don't have a LAN icon in the system tray!!

    did you remember the http:// click here:

    http://192.168.1.1

    it should come up a blank screen with a log in box which asks for username and password.
