    Hey folks,

We are launching a new, free, Amazon Hidden Discount Finder tool, hopefully in this week's email. And that means we really need some MoneySavers to put it through its paces, testing it and trying to find any bugs!

Here is the link: Amazon Hidden Discount Finder

Won't give you too many hints on how to use it, as hopefully that will be obvious, and if it isn't then your feedback will be very valuable! Also please let us know if your favourite shopping category is missing and you'd like us to add it.

Please let us know what you think!

Looks good, based on my testing so far. But why would anyone want to "exclude Marketplace sellers where delivery isn't free"? What matters is the total price including delivery. E.g. I don't want to pay £50 with free delivery when I could pay £40 + £5 delivery!

Also, it looks to me as though some of those apparently uber bargains aren't bargains at all. They are more the result of an artificially inflated original price than a mega-reduction, e.g. who'd pay £95.99 for a single switched socket, even if it is satin chrome? The current £6.45 asking price for the socket is about what I'd expect to pay at Screwfix, so the saving is 0%, not the claimed 93%! Not that that's the fault of the MSE tool, of course.
  • Using this tool got a great pair of trainers so thought it was fab. However recently saw a great deal for Hornby track 24 flexible piece reduced from around 60-70 pounds to 3.95 so ordered 2. The track finally came 2 weeks later but had a completely different order number on and a different price and had only 2 pieces of track. Have the original email but the toy company say they don't even sell mult packs on Amazon. They say they will refund me but no explanation except to say the offer must have been from a different company and must have gone wrong at Amazon's end. When i put the orginal order number from the confirmation email on Amazons email us page it says it is the wrong number. Can anyone possibly shed any light on this

You used to be able to request a refund of the 'extra' paid on Amazon if an item you purchased reduced in price within 90 days. This was very useful, especially at christmas time when you could buy in December and claim back the difference on any January sale reductions. Can you still do this? From memory you had to raise a refund request and explain that you wanted a partial refund as the price had reduced.

I tried this with Amazon just before Christmas and they said they no longer do, however they did give me the difference as 'a way of saying thank you for being such a loyal customer'!

I think its a case of is you ask nicely you might get it but they dont have it as a policy anymore

Hi, I ordered a pair of shoes from Amazon which were delivered today, but when I checked their website this evening they had a different colour in stock which I would have preferred. As far as I can see from the website I can return the ones received today and get a full refund on the postage cost incurred for returning them. Can someone confirm that this is correct. Thank you

just go to their return section and u will be able to get advise on how to do it. i returned to them couple of times before and always use DHL courier, which you can use for free and pick up at your convenience. less worry for you. and i think, there is a freepost label that you can print out once you requested a return.
i wish i have live my life a little bit off the book, took a chance and gamble
  • Here's something I found recently.

It used to be the case that you could only buy from Amazon.co.uk and using Amazon.com redirected you back to .co.uk or point blank refused to deal.

Earlier this year I had to send some birthday gifts to a friends children in France and found my existing Amazon account worked with Amazon.fr so I was able to order items and have them sent gift-wrapped to the children and pay on my credit card - useful to know.:D

However, I have been after the TV series "FireFly" on Bluray, but the box-set costs £46-£50 in the UK (if you can even find it) which is too much money.

So, I decided to try Amazon.com using my UK account login - and it worked. I found "FireFly" for $27.99 and $9.98 shipping to the UK (8-16 days). I paid £27 including shipping and got the Bluray in less than a week for just over half what I would have paid.

So if it's postable and cheaper in Europe or the USA, shop overseas!:money:

Hi good tip on buying from overseas but do be aware that if you buy something other than a book you are probably liable for VAT. I think you only get picked up about 50% of the time and this may still be cheaper.

The painful bit is paying the post office their extortionate handling fee, I got stung for 13.50 on an imported DVD, £5.50 VAT and £8 flat rate post office charge. Made my 'bargain' purchase a good bit more expensive than the same item from amazon.co.uk.
  • hello mse-rs!

i've hijacked a few grabbit threads with this tool - have only just found somewhere more appropriate to report it!

amazon (and a lot of other retailers tbh!) have a bit of a sneaky habit of artifically inflating the price and then dropping it, so they can say: LOOK HOW MUCH YOU'RE SAVING!!!

if you're looking at purchasing an item from amazon and are unsure about this, copy the url and paste it in the search box at
    http://uk.camelcamelcamel.com
this then brings up a graph which tracks the price changes over a previous period of time which you can select.

    eg. nintendo dsi:

hope this is useful to you all!
  • We need to get the resellers out of the search. Just doing a CD search for 99% discount and still get 4,000+ results. The reason, I realise is because there are used copies listed "from" £0.09 or similar. The search should be based on the price from Amazon themselves.
