True, the Tramp guy couldn't spot a socialist if he fell over them'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
It does seem strange that a severe problem directly caused by the excesses of private sector organisations and their management results in public sector/union bashing
Post of the month :TIt's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

There are national pay scales for teachers and a national contract and conditions of service, so the union would be doing their job in protecting the contract of all of their members, who might well be the next in line for a similar pay cut. The only schools not covered by this are academies and these mostly pay the same rate or better, otherwise all their decent staff would leave!
i think its more a problem in Wales
because schools in wales get approx £450 per pupil less now (thanks to the arseembly) they employ teachers straight out of college as their much cheaper than teachers with experience
this is one of the reasons why pupil results in wales have now fallen behind results in England (when they got the same money the results were the same)0 -

At the peak of the economic cycle the financial services industry helped the UK achieve record taxation receipts.
Yet our current Government still managed to spend more than its income.
Resulting in increased borrowing.
Now that the private sector has shrunk. The house of cards created under the umbrella of public services is no longer sustainable. The investment of our tax receipts has been thrown into the wind. With little long term benefit.0 -
Only way to sort out Trade Unions is to lock their leaders in a room with Malcolm Tucker. He will do in 10 minutes what M.Thatch took 10 years to do.0

To reply to the OP I've no idea why. My union isn't much cop, but I'm a member because it's better than nothing and the management are dreadful and just want shot of people.
a good, well-run co. that respects/inspires and supports its staff is most likely to keep its staff and reap the benefits of loyalty. in fact, its staff shouldn't feel the need to resort to TU membership.
does such a co. exist today? not sure. but 'global economics' has def. played a big role into reducing us to 'economic units'. (something that generali might approve of).
me? I'd rather live my life trying to being fair/nice to people rather than allowing the 'market' to dictate otherwise.0 -

if the co. chooses to p1ss me off big time I withdraw my labour. simple as that. they can't sack me (subject to employment law.).
I don't hold with the view that 'if you don't like it you can f*ck off'.
I'm good at my job but I've spent yrs being misdirected, which is a shame because I work in an indusrty I believe in.
what a black/white and sensible little world you live in.
tell you what: come and be my boss! I'm sure we'll get on famously!0 -

It will only take him 10 minutes to drastically reduce their industries, export their jobs overseas, create a long term insitutionalized unemployment class and replace with benefits culture?Prefer girls to money0
