We have been barered from our local barclays bank.

The manager took great offence to us claiming our bank charges back. I would be upset but she has lost the bank £1,000s each year in barclaycard interest, mortgage interest and O/D interest well done her NOT!

    Hey,
how rude of Barclays. I would write to the manager informing him what he is doing is wrong, why is he victimising you for exercising your rights as ruled by OFT? If he fails to come round, speak to the papers, there is a bit of media frenzy about the charges at the moment, i'm sure you would get sympathy. Me being a Trade Unionist, i would also stand out side the bank leafletting all of its customers so they are aware there bank is a bully.

    Hope you resolve this.

I take it you/they closed your account then? If not its not a very sensible move they have made.

Ive so far claimed 3 lots of bank charges back from Barclays and theyve been all right about it. Whenever I go in to pay OH's cheque in (once per week), its 'Is there anything else we can do for you today Mrs......' . I'm sure it must be a regional thing so maybe you should complain to their Head Office.

We had been promised that the money would be in by Thur night, suprise suprise it wasnt as we were in the area anyway we called into the branch at 4pm and asked if someone could phone through to the department for us to speak to them.

The advisor we saw tried to call a direct line to the person dealing with it and got a message saying they were on holiday, so we asked her to just call the customer relations department and we would speak to anyone to get it sorted. She stalled and stalled refusing to call through even when we kept reminding her that the head office shuts at 5pm. We finally got her to go for a manager at 4:45pm.

We spent another 5 minutes explaining what we wanted and that the previous member of staff hadn't done it or helped to sort the 3rd party access problem out either. He then tried the direct line number she gave him and told us he was on holiday and we would have to wait till he came back.

Several more conversations on how this wasn't acceptable and if the first advisor had phoned who we asked to start with we would have been able to get through to someone. The first advisor then started to get really rude saying it was her office and she didnt have to do anyhting we asked, so we asked the manager to take her out of the room.

At this point the actual branch manager appeared and after yet again going through the problem and explaining everything, she managed to speak to someone who authorised the branch staff to transfer the money into my account. Great we thought its almost sorted, they left to go and sort things out then came back after 5:30 and said oh dear we have left it too late you will have to wait till Monday now.

We were shocked and told her we had been in over an hour and a half wich should have been enough time to get this sorted and at that point she asked us to leave, so we asked for something in writing to say it would be in the account on Monday and thats when she told us we were barred and she would make sure we never enter the local branches again. So we asked for that in writing with reasons to send to head office in a new complaint and she had us thrown out.

My poor other half is disabled and was in shock as he has banked at that branch for over 20 years with no real problems at all. and trying to get him out the branch was difficult.

So can anyone explain this to me.

  • I am really disgusted at this!! For a start, you have a right to have everything in writing. It's obviously their way of getting rid of what they would call 'a problematic customer'. The blimmin cheek of it!! They have no right to treat you like that. Complain to everyone and take it all the way. threaten the press to them, they'd have a field day if they knew a disabled person was banned from a bank because you were trying to get your money.

What has this world come to??

That is disgusting - I would contact Barclays Head Office and make a formal complaint against that manager. Demand a full disciplinary hearing against them, and get your MP involved too. Tell them you will be speaking to Watchdog and Martin about the reprisals now being directed against customers who claim their rights under the OFT ruling.

I would also claim compensation for the distress caused to you and your husband for being forcibly removed.

How dare that person behave like that? I would be ashamed to treat anyone like that.
