That's interesting wullie because mine never get sent back to the PO but left with a neighbour, l'm doing something right for a change :T
I tip the binmen because they will take (mostly) anything we put out, and they always look for and wave to my little boy when they go past, he's obsessed with them!
Happy moneysaving all.0 -
As a postman here is my little tip.
Those that tip i always make sure their packets are left with a neighbour or in a shed or garage.
Those that never tip i take all packets back to the office and leave a little card telling them where to collect it ( 5 miles away).
Merry Christmas to you all
Are you my postman, I wonder? We give him £10 and he saves us loads of journeys to the Post Office a few miles away - also redirects stuff to us from where we used to live, even though the official redirection ran out a couple of years ago. First rate service, but I never (till now) made any connection betwen that and the tip!0 -
We tip the post man who is brilliant & also the bin men & recycling men.0

Personnaly I don't tip (maybe thats why I get rubbish service??)
I never tip my hairdresser (although she's brilliant I still normally wait ages)
Postman is never the same one, plus our mail goes "missing" at times
Had too many run ins with the bin men to want to tip them
Don't have a milkman as its so much cheaper to nip to Tesco for it, (or Costco when I am there once a month)
I'm training to be a beautician but I really won't be expecting tips, I feel the prices charged are a fair representation of the work
I'm just mean though!0 -

our post office is 2 minutes walk away and i go past it every morning when i drop my son at the station and i would rather collect my parcels from there rather than do battle with next doors mad mutt0 -
I dont tip anyone.
Surely everyone gets paid for the job they do?
Further i dont expect tips off anyone. I am happy with my pay.
What does p*ss me off are knob head members of the public who witter on with pathetic, brainless phrases like.." ohhh i bet your getting well paid for working today" and "oohhh..i bet your on triple time".
To those,i'd like to say FOAD..I'm on a salary to do the job and thats it.
RE working at xmas/new year etcFeudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
Wasn't sure what to put myself as this year we're giving the postman and expensive box of Thornton's as it was free with the offer on the website (MIL always gets a load of gifts from there so was pleased when I could add a load of stuff free by just splitting her regular order into multiple deliveries and having several codes) and he is a lovely local bloke. Previously (before we moved) we were mates with the local regular postman and have had him over for Christmas dinner with his missus and him getting a gift like the rest of the guests (about £15 )Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.0 -
I don't have a milkman or paper delivery, the posties always seem to be different & give parcels to a neighbour I always ask *not* to under any circumstances & I never see any binmen as i'm in flats & the bins for all three blocks are in one area out of sight of my flat.
My Dog's Groomer got a £3 tip which isn't much but is 25% of what it costs me for the Dogs bath & groom, plus a box of Thorntons Moments chocolates & the Vets got a tin of Roses for them all0 -
As a business customer, I tip both my delivery and collection drivers. I give £50 each to my RM collection girl and the DHL chap, who both text me daily with any problems and/or time of collection. For the delivery drivers, TNT, Fedex and City Link, I gave £10 each.
I give my postie £25 plus a case of beer but bin men get nothing as they usually forget to empty (we are very very rural) and always leave half the contents of the bin when they do remember.
And having just read page2, I would say that I tip for two reasons, (a) because I think it is reinforcing the thank you I give through the year, for the terrific service I get and (b) because I want and can afford to.
I don't think it is the amount you tip, but the fact you are 'saying' thank you. I appreciate some people think that a postie gets a salary so why should you tip, but you probably are the same people who don't tip a waiter/waitress. At this time of year it is just nice to show your appreciation, be it in the form of money, beer, a cake or a note. To me its just common courtesy, but thats just me, perhaps?0
