Well I got £150 off of it but I bought it believing taht I could upgrade to Windows 7 i.e. it has Vista installed but it actaully will be running Windows 7.0

HP are clearly one of the worst offenders at this game. - well now I wouldnt buy from HP or PCW again and I will tell all others to steer well clear.0

I'd be inclined to ask if there's an option to send them an SAE with £5.80 in it to cover the worker's probable hourly rate. that'd reflect the true cost.GREENS M'SHIP OFFER NOW CLOSED SO PLEASE DON'T ASK ME!Olympic Debt-free Challenge £2150/£11900 = 18.0%NOW INVESTIGATING AN ALTERNATIVE TO MY IVA - I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND ONE ANY MORE!0

So you've not got a bad deal-you're still £128.01 ahead!
It is also in the small print on the PCW website:

Don't hold your breath, it's £22, not the end of the world, especially when you take into account your time/phone/travel costs arguing the point. Free is rarely free.!!

PC World didn't neglect to tell you anything. I have to defend them in this case! It is a free upgrade. You pay nothing for the software. You do pay postage and distribution costs. But you didn't ask about these. And PC World has no control over what these are. If you have a problem with these, you complain to HP, not PC World.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0

But that is not the point ...
surfingjoyner has bought a system, at a price he negotiation, being led to believe that the upgrade to Win 7 is 'free'. He was not made aware that 'free' means £22 postage !
Had he been made aware of this charge for a 'free' upgrade, he might have made a consumer decision not to purchase, and to go elsewhere. So he WAS misled, as he was not made aware of a MATERIAL FACT in his purchasing decision. If that was an insurance policy he bought, and he failed to disclose a material fact, his policy would be cancelled.
It is outrageous to charge this, as it does NOT relect any true charge of shipping - insured or otherwise. It is PROFITEERING and MISLEADING to suggest an inflated charge for P&P is acceptable.0 -
I got a 'free' wireless router when I migrated to Plusnet, however they also charged me £6.99 delivery, which was more than the actual cost no doubt, but I thought still a good deal overall. I was aware of the delivery charge because I did the basic research. Unfortunately the OP did not. He also bought from a shop that has a terrible reputation for service, and cannot be relied upon to explain the full facts. Each manufacturer charges a different amount for the W7 upgrade and this is not controlled by PCW. I never suggested the charge was acceptable! No free lunch, and no free laptop

But it doesn't benefit PC World in the slightest. HP is the company that is making the money. And it's not a material fact. The upgrade is still free. There's just a hidden change for postage.
And it would appear you're trying to say that if the OP knew there was a £22 charge, they would have paid the extra 150 to get a computer with W7 pre-installed instead? Don't think so....Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
The charge is not PC Worlds responsibility. They are not at fault for the £22 charge.
Where they are at fault is to continuously say that the upgrade is free. There are hidden costs that they did not disclose or mention could exist. That is where they mislead the customer. As with all aspects of a purchase if they are mislead they are entitled to a refund of the product, whether it is open or not.
Admittedly with £150 off you really are pushing it to get any more off it.New PV club member. 3.99kW system. Solar Edge with 14 x 285W JA Solar panels. 55° West from south and 35° pitch.0
