HSBC Managed fund - safe, balanced & high risk

A rep from the bank has been trying to get me to invest my inheritance (£30,000) in a fund which will cost me 4.5% to join, 1.25% per year and could yield a max of 12% per year. Is this reasonable? My friends say, no, but are there better alternatives?

Don't bother. There are far better options than a hugely overpriced fund of funds...

Out of interest, where did they get 12% from?

It'll probably be the World Selection fund.

How can it be "safe" and "high risk" at the same time?!?!

There are three "flavours" to the World Selection fund: cautious, balanced and dynamic. The dynamic one comes in at roughly the same risk as something from the balanced managed sector. The charges on all three funds are extremely high, and the track record doesn't really justify the high charges that they all have.

Loads of better alternatives. Its expensive, has no track record but what there has been hasnt been good and single fund investing on £30k is lazy. Not bad but just what you expect from a sales rep.
