  • Guy’s some advice

I’m brand new to clubcard as in I only joined 2 days ago (yes I know hard to believe) and am after some sound advise from seasoned vets as yourself in getting the maximum out of the scheme.

I’m not a lazy sod and have started reading this thread from page 1 to collect as much info as possible (yes I know the info is from 2006, but I’m assuming some of it still holds valid today i.e. joining all the clubcard clubs to get vouchers – which I’ve already done!!), but I’m no where near the end yet so thought I’d post up a few questions now (and catch up in the mean time) so I can start getting maximum points straight away rather then wait till I get to the end of the thread and then decide what to do (there’s noting worse then already spending £100 on fuel in 2 days and getting only 100 points when I know I can probably get double that if I sort things out straight away) …..anyway

    1. Can you still get a clubcard plus card (I still see the phone number on Tesco’s web page so assume you can)?? If you can, does this replace you existing clubcard and just give you double points when you use it?? Or do you pay with your clubcard plus (and earn money on it) and then also swipe your normal clubcard through to get the points on there as well (hence the double points)??

    2. Is the clubcard credit card better then double points?? I.e. It says spend £4 in store on the card and get 5 points, are these points in addition to the clubcard points?? I.e. if I go in store and spend £100 on my Clubcard CC and also swipe my clubcard through do I get 125 points on the CC ( 5 points for every £4 spend = 125 points) and then also 100 points on my normal Clubcard?? If this is true then surely the CC is a better option then the Clubcard plus as if I did the same on that, then I would only get a total of 200 points rather then a total of 225.

    3. Advise from the past posts suggest I keep the CC separate from my clubcard (to get extra vouchers through the post), how is this done?? Do I just not put in my clubcard number on the CC on-line application form (there is a optional field asking for an existing clubcard number, if I fill this in then I’m guessing the two cards will be merged/linked and I’ll only get one set of vouchers but if I don’t fill in the info then I should get 2 sets of post through the door so extra coupons??)

    4. If I put my partner on my credit card account, will she get separate mail from Tesco (and hence more coupons)?? or is it a better option to register another clubcard at my address on her name and then to merge her vouchers with mine at a later date??

    5. What the max number of key fobs on one account?? I’ve got 5 people in the house and only 2 fobs (when they come through)…can I ask for more so they can all have a fob??

    6. Till spits - I’ve seen these posted (barcodes) but I’m assuming you can only use a till spit if you physically have the till spit coupon in your hand??

Thanks in advance for any help!!!

    Hi Evilspeaks

Wlecome to mse. It is a fantastic site with a mountain of information and you will soon become addicted.

I can certainly help you out with this question

    1. Can you still get a clubcard plus card (I still see the phone number on Tesco’s web page so assume you can)?? I just recently applied for a clubcard plus so you can still get them. I got mine through within a few weeks of sending off the app form. On the form there is a section where they ask you if you already have a clubcard and if so you put in the number, I think this is so they can merge them together. Everytime you pay with clubcard plus you get double points. This now effectively is your new clubcard so you dont need your other one but I tend to keep it in my purse anyhow and use it If I dont have any money on my clubcard plus to pay, as the normal clubcard just scans with the barcode the clubcard plus one does not. Oh I really do hope ive made sense here.

Hope Ive managed to help you a little bit.

    Thanks Mrs T!!

1 question thats come out of this reply though, if on my application form i put i have a clubcard and insert it's number.....will this stop me getting mail coupons from either the Clubcard or the Clubcard plus as the cards will be linked?? or even by doing this i'll still get two sets of mail, one for each card??

Im not sure about that one im afraid. Its a question I wont be able to answer until I get my statements in and we have only just had them so it will be another 2 months or so.

Sorry. Hopefully someone more experienced on the subject will come along soon to answer.

Keep them seperate. If you merge you CC+ with a regular CC you will only get one combined mailing for them. Also, your cash vouchers will be merged, so in a mailing you will have 2 vouchers for CC and 1 for TPF (tesco personal finance, your CC+ bonus points). Because of they way they are divided up you will often find 3 coupons is not enough. That's never a good idea because then you get the extra coupons paperclipped on to it. That has to be done by a person, and so is more likely to draw attention to a high points balance.
When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.

thanks for this info. I wonder if I can phone them up and take off the normal clubcard details and split them. Wonder if they would ask me why right enough. And I have read on numerous occasions about people not wanting to draw attention to themselves about high points balance. Is this a problem when you go over a certain amount. I was just over on pts (thanks for your answer btw) and some people have got 250,000 to save for cars. Surely this draws attention to you

what about the wine club coupons giving you points for buying specific wines. does anyone know if you actually have to buy the product it states or can you get the points buying any wine (including the small bottles)...

    thanks

Thanks for this information pboae....much appreciated.....

However 1 last question on this matter.....what about the e-mail address on the application form?? Can this be my normal address which I’ve already registered with tesco.com for my clubcard account and all I have to do is register the Clubcard Credit Card on tesco.com at a different e-mail address to keep the accounts separate and hence get 1000 points for each first on-line order over £50?? Or should it also be a different e-mail on the application form as well??

It’ll be so much easier if on the application forms (for clubcard plus and Clubcard Credit Card) I could just use my normal proper personal e-mail address (as this is looked at and used everyday) and then on tesco.com register the 3 cards on different e-mail addresses and keep the accounts separate that way!

Not sure if I want to use hotmail accounts for credit card application and Clubcard Plus application forms (as don't check it often)!
