Late last year I used my 2750 Nectar points in part payment for goods purchased from Argos.

We then moved on to Sainsburys and were asked if we would like to use our Nectar points in part payment (it was in the days when they asked). I told the girl that we'd just used them but she said we had 2750 - their computer hadn't caught up! It was an offer we couldn't refuse.

Only some time later my Nectar account showed -2750 points. We considered ditching the card and my wife applying for one of her own but honesty (or guilt) overruled. Even so, by watching out for every Nectar offer (for things we want, at a good price) my account is back up to 5871.

  • I wanted to book a hotel for the weekend and found one on e-bookers, then remembered Nectar e-stores. Looked the same hotel up on e-bookers, via the e-stores link, and found it was considerably dearer. In other words, they hike up the price and then take your nectar points off you for the privilege! Anybody else found similar things?

That sounds like the sort of thing they get up to! You did well to check it out - lots of people wouldn't have.

Does anyone know if you buy books through Amazon Market place - will you get the Nectar Points? or does it not count?

no it doesn't count as it is outside the 'normal' amazon operation

  • Hi,

Do you know if you can back-date points?, if so, then how far back can they be? (got a Nectar card about a month ago, and found I had a number receipts in the back of the car which are about 3 months old at the most).

Can I send them somewhere to get the points added?

Secondly, I missed on the Amazon triple points offer (ended 30/06/2006). Do you know of any up coming bonus offers?

    Thanks :-)

Quote Bertville: "Be aware that if you sign up to receive the Nectar points from EDF Energy, you will be losing out on the cash discount which is available for paying by Direct Debit. It is still possible to receive some points for reading your own meters."

EDF have a confusing mix of cash back and Nectar points on their bills etc - even offering a choice for the same thing (eg reading your own meters). When I joined up a few months ago I did my full research including clarification e-mails and phone calls. The upshot I found was that in all situations where there was a choice, going for cash back was in every instance much more beneficial. I then went to some trouble - and it's not easy online - to make sure I only elected for Nectar points for certain things when I advised EDF that I had a Nectar card.

At present I get 450 points each quarter and the rest in cash back. I get £7.40 a quarter just for reading my meters and reporting the figures to their website - a 5-minute job! Fantastic value. And that's only one. An additional bonus is that, for me anyway, because I subscribed online, the prices haven't gone up as they have elsewhere. Though it is sure to come eventually.

Can you tell me how you get 7.40 for reading your meters? Do you have to register online? Also, I only get 300 points per quarter for gas and electricity. How do you get more?
