Not sure if this one has been mentioned, but you can get an Air Miles Cash Passport: http://www.airmiles.co.uk/collect/travelex/travelex-cash-passport?from=travelexsignpost
If you load up £250 onto one of these cards it'll cost you a £5 loading fee. But for that you get 2 miles for every £9 plus a bonus of 100 miles for the first load. So it works out that you get about 155 miles at a cost of £5, working out at about 3p per mile. This is a bargain when you consider the value of the flights you buy with the miles are worth far more than 3p per mile - more like 15p per mile.
Note: when you load the £250 don't do it from a credit card, as it will likely be treated as a cash advance and you will face a fee + interest! Load it from a debit cared, esp. Nationwide if you have it as that gives you 0% on any currency purchases. Then when the card arrives all you do it take it along to the nearest ATM with the PIN and withdraw your £250 from the machine. Then take some scissors, cut up the card and voila - 155 air miles for £5.Elite 5:2 #54 12/13 lbs (18 Jan) 1st Target :j0 -
I've had a look at the Airmiles cash card.
There doesn't seem to be a loading fee (in Euros or dollars) 2% for sterlling and no usage fees.
Nationwide as many know are charging 2% on foreign transactions which presumably the purchase on the card would be but then subsequent usage of the card in cash machines would be free rather than £1 a time (plus 2%) that Nationwide charge.

Yeah, it's not bad at all. If you just want the miles, the best way is to load up with £250 Sterling, take the hit of the £5 load fee, withdraw the £250 when you receive your card and receive 155 miles for your troubles - 3p a mile or thereabouts.Elite 5:2 #54 12/13 lbs (18 Jan) 1st Target :j0 -

The double points offer is on until 16th August. I have just got a card and topped it up with £500 and got 200 miles. Can I use the card in the UK or does it have to be abroad?
If so, what is to stop me withdrawing the cash at an ATM then topping it up again with the same money to get more miles?!0 -

Yep, you can use the card in the UK - just take it to an ATM and withdraw your £500 (you might need to do two visits of £250).
You are fine to top up again, but note that you won't get the 100 bonus miles as that's only given on your first application. So the cost per mile goes up from 3p per mile to around 9p per mile. Still cheaper than buying miles, but not quite the bargain the first load is.
There is an upper limit for reloads on the card - can't recall exactly what it is, but it's something like £1500 in sixty days.Elite 5:2 #54 12/13 lbs (18 Jan) 1st Target :j0 -
Thanks for the quick reply!
I also thought I was being clever by upgrading my airmiles duo cards to the premier version for 500 extra miles and an extra .25 miles per £10 spend at a cost of £50 per year, as advertised on the Airmiles site.
However, after contacting Airmiles it looks like I won't get the bonus miles as it is only for new customers. Also, on the Lloyds-TSB airmiles site it shows the .25 point extra to be only for the first 3 months and this is not mentioned on the Airmiles site!
I hope to be able to cancel the cards under the 14 day rule when I get them and return to the standard free version. Teach me for being greedy!0 -
hello! I am just about to take out an airmiles account for the first time so thought I would check here first. I see the first post here is 2006 and obviously things may have changed since then, so can anyone recommend a rough date I should start reading these posts from? I didn't just want to come on and ask questions that might already have been answered previously! TIA0

Probably best to go back only 2 months if you looking to boost them as most offers are time limitedPrivate Parking Tickets - Make sure you put your Subject Access Request in after 25th May 2018 - It's free & ask for everything, don't forget the DVLA0
