When I was little (ummmmm.... about 25 yrs ago) I shared a room with my sister. Very occasionally, if there was something on that was suitable for us both to watch (Royal Variety Performance or something) and it was past our bedtime we were given a little black and white telly (with a turny knob and a bendy ariel) to balance on books at the foot of my sisters bed.

I think that this was mainly to keep my sister quiet as she's older than me and probably wanted to stay up when my Mum and Dad wanted some peace and quiet downstairs.

    That was good fun :)

I don't want my daughter to have a telly in her room, she doesn't need one. If she wants to watch TV she can come downstairs and when she's in bed at night she reads and draws.

If she's poorly she lies on the sofa, if she gets up early she comes downstairs and watches the big TV. She just doesn't need her own TV
Just run, run and keep on running!

Sounds like my house! My sister and I shared a room as well and I remember as a treat, my dad setting up a black and white portable (with turny knob etc. ) so we could watch Bucks Fizz on the Eurovision Song contest!

I just don't see the need for my children to be sat upstairs, on their own, watching telly. Keeping in the main "living" part of the house makes it a more social thing.
"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."

TV in a child`s room. No way!! We had a communal TV but I must say that the children were more interested in playing out and persuing hobbies and doing family things like cooking and board games

Result = a very united and content family. Adult children now all happily married and in very good jobs after getting various degrees and most importantly, all communicating with each other and with us and no social isolation on the way to adulthood.
