both my kids 9 & 6 have tv/dvd's in thir rooms and they NEVER watch them. DD will watch a dvd when she has a frind over to play if its raining, son has a play station with his too and i cant remember the last time it was on.
maybe my kids are weird, but i dont thnk so. they only like to watch sky programes mainly, and thts not going in their rooms. DD only watches t.v if shes sat next to me.susiesue

I'm also dead against it, my DS is nearly 3 and there is no way he will have a tv in his room, we have one in the lounge and that is it!! personally I could live without the damn thing altogether and tbh its very rarely on. He watches cbeebies for a short while in the evening when he's too tired for anything else and then a dvd at the weekend if he's been good. Other than that it remains switched off. I don't think bedrooms are the right places for tv's/game consoles/pc's, they should be family activities.
I was shocked to discover our neighbours allowed their 4yo girl to have a tv in her room with video and dvd player, it seems crazy to me!!0 -

Take TV out of child's bedroom,
children with a television in their bedroom more likely to be diagnosed with attention deficit disorder
a bedroom television set was significantly and negatively associated with students' test scores
Every hour of daily television watched by a 4-year-old leads to a 6% increase that child will grow up to be a bully

I am ever so surprised at the amount of people who allow children to have TV in their rooms, let alone DVD players etc.
Forgive me, I am a new Mum-may change my mind in 6 months!!

Bad idea! Repeat various reasons as given below!0

i think if you are allowing your child to use it for a set time etc then its fine
some programmes are educational,my 4 yr old loves watching " zoo vet" etc & my eldest likes cookery programmes and property ladder lol
then they get to watch kids stuff like nick jr etc and the odd DVD / video of their choice in their rooms or downstairs
i love lazy sunday afternoons in the winter all cwtching up to watch a film together
IMO so long as the child isnt allowed to watch whatever they want whenever they want then its fine and like said above every member of the family in a different room but watching the same tv programme well thats just madness and so antisocial
we only use the other TV sets in the house when we all want to watch different things,as its good to be individual and not share the same taste
yes there are far better things to be doing than watching TV but when the weather is bad or you just want a relax etc then a bit of TV doesnt do any harm and i personally dont believe TV has a direct effect on whether a child is going to be a bully etc
so i say if monitored then its ok ,IMO0 -

Amazing where these myths start isn't it.
Anyway, as someone said previously, as long as it isn't used as an 'electronic babysitter' I don't see a problem in it. My children have them in their rooms and rarely use them. Come in handy this week when football has taken over and they want to watch a DVD. Before anyone starts with the comments my son was watching a DVD documentary on Dolphins. One day I might be more organised...........

Increases in television viewing are associated with increased calorie intake among youth. This association is mediated by increasing consumption of calorie-dense low-nutrient foods frequently advertised on television.
Not only does it have a tendency to make them violent it also makes them fat as well.My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program
