I believe that a child has to be 14 to supervise other children, but there is no age specified as far as I am aware, its down to the individual. I called Social Services and they confirmed that up until the age of 18 if something happens to your child and your negligent you can be taken to Court.

However, I used to leave my daughter when she was 11 whilst I went shopping for an hour - over the road live opp sains - she hated coming. Then when she was 12 she would take ages to come home from school and then when she did I was home a few minutes later or she was home after me!! By the time she was 14 she came home to an empty house but used to take ages to get home as she is such a gossip lol.

I tried to get her a child minder when she was 11 and for a while it worked but she wanted to have my daughter the same evenings each week and I worked two shifts a week and in the end she wanted paying every evening as she wanted it all in a contract! Didnt last long. I believe that children over 10 or it might be 12 do not form part of a child minder's quota but it is up to them if they take them. There is a lack of provision for looking after teenagers.

My mothe used to say that I should be home for my daughter - but firstly, we wouldnt have one if I didnt work and secondly as above she sometimes came home after me wasnt going to give up my job just in case she came in before me.

I have no idea how we are supposed to do everything. Anyway my daughte ris 16 now but needless to say I am not having anymore until there is a regime in place to help me look after them and work. Not strictly true I dont want any more now and that is one of the reasons the other is I dont believe we are allowed to excercise parental control but thats another thread I believe.!!
