water bill

Options
I am being chased for a water bill at a property I've not lived at for 4 years (by 1st credit). My ex still lives there. I thought I had informed the water company that I had moved (as I am paying for water at my new place). However, they still have me down at my ex's address.

It also turns out I have had a CCj against me for a year for this bill. I have asked 1st credit to provide an invoice so I can check what dates the bill covers.

If I can prove I am no longer on the mortgage & when I moved out (& that I have been paying for my own water at my new address) do you think they will chase my ex instead? I would have thought he should be paying the water.

Since I have tried to chase him re this bill he has severed all contact with me - any suggestions.

Any ideas & suggestions welcome

thanks for that & yes I am aware. However, the bill is for where i USED to live over 4 years ago & where my ex still owns - so they can cut everything off as far as I'm concerned

If you can prove you moved out, they should be able to amend their records and reduce the amount you owe accordingly. However, the CCJ will probably still stand, as it was issued correctly based on them assuming you still living there and being liable, as they were not told any different.

just wanted to update. I wrote a letter to 1st credit & got my ex to sign it confirming when I moved out & the he is responsible for the Water charges on the old house. They passed this onto United Utilities & to cut a long story short they have sent me a letter saying the debt is satisfied. So whilst the CCj cannot be removed from my credit file at least it'll show as satisfied.

Now all I have to sort out is the joint account - which is all my ex's debt too!

PeoplesChampion.....get ready for "trickle feed caps".
It is expected that it will be made possible in the near future for the suppliers to fit a limiter to the supply of people who "wont pay" so that the flow of water is so low it is not practical to run a bath, impossible to run a washing machine etc but you still have enough to cover your "human rights" for drinking and bowl washing

It just may take you 30 minutes to fill the kettle

Good news for everyone who does pay their bills

This is nothing against Joby as you pay your bill but would have made your ex pay and stop you getting the CCJ

Who is to say the ex was not paying the bill , and the address was being billed TWICE?

Properties are not often billed twice and if they are it tends to be based on a different rate of charge and current

IE a water meter bill and an assessed or RV bill. That happens when a place is slip or a new build with the same kind of address etc

From what the OP has put I am 99% sure that the ex was not paying and was just putting the bill in the OP name in the bin
