  • You CANNOT do it online as you are not the registered keeper.

Print off your insurance certificate on quality paper, take to Post Office with part of V5C and money. Hopefully Post Office will not notice that you have printed off insurance cert yourself and they will tax it for you.

Officially you are not allowed to used insurance certs that you have printed yourself to tax but many PO's let you or just don't notice.

If it doesn't work then you will need to keep it off road til insurance cert comes through post.

    :rotfl:I cross posted with you!

Glad you are about to put us all straight!

I had to tax one of our new cars today (online) - without the V5 - didn't have a problem - but then we have got full insurance. I am wondering where the new tax disc will turn up tho! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I'm wondering how I did it online - what with the V5 being in the post either on way or on way back from DVLA.... but it was easy peasy...

If your name isn't on V5C yet (ie you haven't got it in your possession) then it will go to the previous owner on the V5C. If you know who that was then I suppose you can get disc from them, but if not then you should ring DVLA tomorrow to get it sorted.

I'll leave you all to ponder on that - I'm off to bed!!

I edited post... - fortunately we know the previous owner fairly well - so if they get the disc, no doubt they will bring it to us. I'll let the bosses worry about it - i don;t get paid enough to worry........

When I had this prob, I got a days cover from tempcover which was £16 (-£8 quidco) and they email you the cert. Printed it off, went to PO and got tax disc no problems.

The women did try to flog me PO insurance though as she spotted I only 1 days cover :D

Should have mentioned I've done this in both Post Office and local DVLA office.

The quality of most decent printers is so good that it would take an expert to tell if a print off was a copy or not. The original is a print after all.

Yet another case of regulations failing to keep pace with technical developement.;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
