If you have your insurance docs, you can tax it at a post office with your part of the V5.“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”

Go online - to dvla roadtax. Where it asks for reference number - you won't have one - but you have the option to put in registration number and document number, which is on your portion of the v5 form that you have. It will then search for MOT and insurance which you have, and then you will need to pay for either six months or a year. Once paid, you are taxed and the disc will be sent to you within a few days - I trust that the dvla have the v5 and your name and address already being sent out to you from when you bought it.
Hope that all makes sense......... I've had a long day, and had to do just this at work today for one of our cars that we have recently purchased - realised that the tax had run out but no new V5 form! Sorted now tho!Genie

If you do it online - the insurance will already be logged with the dvla now. In fact, you could do it right now - google dvla road tax! Sorted!!Genie

All you need is the reg, the doc ref number off of your portion of V5 and your credit/debit card!
Happy driving!Genie

When I had this prob, I got a days cover from tempcover which was £16 (-£8 quidco) and they email you the cert. Printed it off, went to PO and got tax disc no problems.
The women did try to flog me PO insurance though as she spotted I only 1 days cover0 -
Hi, I am with egroup insurance, I thought that was the going procedure these days anyway
Jeannieblue- sounds loads easier but I have already paid insurance without sending V5 as its not signed by last keeper. so as the V5 is not in my name yet will I be unable to buy tax.?0
