There is only one thing there that looks iffy, so I would check and fix (from HijackThis):
O18 - Protocol hijack: cf - {9875BFAF-B04D-445E-8A69-BE36838CDE3E}
There also is some debris from removed programs that could be removed if you want:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB} - (no file)
O23 - Service: ArcSoft Connect Daemon (ACDaemon) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\ArcSoft\Connection Service\Bin\ACService.exe (file missing)
Hopefully that should have shifted it, so see how it goes - maybe run MalwareBytes again after a reboot to check.
As far as the best AV is concerned, AVG is nowhere near as good as it was a couple of years ago. Avast, Avira and Kaspersky are all highly rated at the moment - personally I would use Avast if you want to change.
The other thing you need is a big stick - in case your boyfriend goes near it again

The most important thing that you should do is update AVG to it's latest version, so that you get continued protection.
Download from here latest version) and install. Do not un-install the old version and it will preserve your preference settings etc.:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
thanks for your advise davb- i had to leave things as they are earlier to come to work, and left yet another scan running - i will take your advise and get rid of those bits you highlight when i get home tonight and perhaps do one more scan arghh. very much appreciated.
espresso, good idea, i will install all updates, the site you highlight, hippo.com, is different to the one i got avg from initially - i think i had it from grisoft.com (or sumething similar) would that matter?
i was talking to one of the tech guys at work who has offered to wipe my hard drive if i bring it in, and reinstall xp and im not sure weather to let him to that as a doubly sure measure, any thoughts on that? i havent got anything that i wouldnt be able to get back as my main worries would be photos but i have always backed them up.
also im thinking of getting rid of internet explorer for firefox, any thoughts anyone?
you lot have been great, if i could buy you a beer i would, many thanksWith love, POSR

Grisoft no longer host the AVG free version on their own servers as far as I can see. No problem getting the latest version from filehippo - it's their second most popular download.:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
brill thanks for that espressoWith love, POSR

Are you sure that's a complete Malwarebytes log? It would normally include details of the infected files and folders, and show whether they've been fixed.Stompa0
