What's wrong with London? Excellent job opportunities, great nightlife, lots of things to do, see and visit. I'd never live anywhere else TBH.

I like London but wouldn't live there. I prefer living in the Home Counties, a half hour commute from the centre of London and everything accessible, but round here I'm surrounded by countryside and I can afford a house, best of both worlds imo. Different situation for Pastures though, I truly hope she loves the place and gets the perfect job.

High cost of living such as rent. My friend and her BF rent a studio flat and the rent alone is £620 but for just £30 more in the area I used to rent in you could rent a 3 bedroom place (flat or house depending on what you are after)! I'm sorry but I don't see why someone would want to live in London when it costs so much to rent - forget buying a place. My dad may work in London but he made the choice not to live there as he would never have been able to afford a kind of place we live in or any of the other things he has (such as a second house, 2 cars etc). His travel costs are a lot less than the extra would be to live in London. Most of his work mates also decided not to live in London for simular reasons. It means they can do more with the money they earn.
£620 between two is cheaper than a single person living in a cheap part of the UK, doesn't sound too shabby at all.

If I find work then I can do the maths on travel/rent, but you can't really look for jobs from afar, so I'm going to be there to see what happens. If a job happens ... then I can do the maths and take it or leave it.

I think the perfect job would actually end up being outside of London, but when you're 200-300 miles from London it's all just too far to look. You can't afford to keep doing all the travel for speculative interviews from miles away.

I don't like London and realise how blunt and nosy my question was , sorry:o.
    Don't buy heat magazine , it's tripe:D

    Good luck with everything!

This board is quite a good place to show what's behind seemingly trivial things...so....

I make clothes, in England, the entire garment but some of the fabrics come in from Turkey, others from China but are dyed here.
Our textile industry has been decimated over the past decade.

I have to glance at Heat etc for work..I buy them every 2 or 3 weeks (but try to look for free whenever possible) to see if anyone is wearing my garments (which then becomes an excellent selling opportunity) or who is wearing what and so on.....what copies are lurking also.

I export a lot of garments (which is good for UK so I have been told:o) and the factory I use in Leicester nearly closed down last year.....after 40 years and used to employ 70 odd staff F/T now only 6 P/T.

A moment like this can generate sales of said item (PS; she is called Amber and is USA actress...I googled :D) ..which then generates a repeat docket from us to meet demand....and said factory staff (all highly skilled) earn overtime for extra spends for this Xmas.

So, Heat (and the like) can seem trivial in some ways, but can also be fairly important in others.

I would be SO happy to wear that whole outfit .... but I'd look like some sad alcoholic old bag lady ... or mutton dressed as lamb at best :)
  • I've not read all this, but the people who are griping about the 'rich folk' on here spending X hundred a month on this that and the other - what would you do if you found yourself with £1k disposable income a month? I'm guessing it wouldn't go to charity, you'd probably be spending it on cars/watches/holiday/tv's etc too...

I agree it is cheaper for them than a single person in a cheaper part of [STRIKE]London [/STRIKE](opps wrong word) the UK but it could be a lot cheaper for them not far outside London with a decent transport system to get to work with.

I do hope you get a job in London or else where. Also as you say if you do get a job in London you can look into places to live that are cheaper overall.

Me too.....but I can't wear my current ranges....bit mutton. The best bit is I make what I would wear if I was 20 again.

Watch this space.....next year is stuff for us too.;) Doing it only because I need some things to wear

I will, of course, be looking for a £100k job, so how much my rent costs will be irrelevant :P

To be fair, anyone over about 20 would look like mutton dressed as lamb in the whole outfit; over-the-knee socks are a hard look to carry off...
