  • Ah, new thread~ Morning everyone. Toots, that sounded like a really horrible visit - hope you feel better soon. And honestly, "You look like you've put on weight!" What nice person says that?!

(Obviously, not such a nice person...)

Don't worry - I've broken down this morning, cried my eyes out and decided that I hate my life, and stood wondering if I could be bothered to even make it out the door this morning. Answer? No, I can't.

My mother and my grandmother have been on the phone, nagging me about my 'education' and how I'm neglecting it because I can't cope at the moment with life and finding a house, and dealing with my grandmother's depression plus my mum's nagging and do gooder tendencies.

My grandmother get's all weak and wibbly and "I can't cope..." and "Come down and help me clean out my house...". She's a chronic hoarder and she's just too bogged down to do it herself. Me and my SO have been helping but she just aquires more stuff to replace it.

Example: I threw out forty one hidieous handbags a year ago. A few months later I went back, found about half the old ones back again and another fifty or so on top of them! It's like it breeds and mulitplies and I have too much to do to be doing with breeding handbags and hoarding. You throw it out? She gets all teary and "NO, YOU CAN'T THROW THAT OUT. I WANT IT!" Oddly enough, I ask her to describe four handbags in her cupboard?

She couldn't manage one. Some of them have been in there for years. If not decades.

Err...no. I have work and other things to do and MY OWN LIFE TO LIVE, since if I go down there, I'll end up staying not for a few hours, or even over night, but for weeks at a time. I can't afford to miss that much work.

Mum? She does the whole "you're neglecting your education!" and "shall I come up there and have a clean out for you?" and my personal unfavourite "If you lend me your card, I'll order your food shopping for you...."

No, mother, if I lend you my card, I'll never see it again, because you'll hold it hostage and only give it back when I threaten you with never coming up for Xmas ever again and going down to my father's instead. You'll clean out my accounts out of your good intentions due to your hatred of the banking system since your council lost lots of money due to investing in Icelandic banks, and then you'll only buy me health food stuff in vegetarian and vegan forms and say that you're keeping me healthy.

And then you'll buy another sofa for yourself on my card.

No. Not happening. She has good intentions and I love her, but sometimes she just makes me want to throw the phone at the wall and scream. She's a veggie and thinks that I should be too which is just one example of her control freakiness.

(Ironically, I was one until my SO introduced me to the wonders of the bacon sandwich. Eighteen years of Veggie-ism flushed down the loo thanks to the bacon buttie!)

If she has a 'clean out' she won't just do my room, she'll do everyone else's and since they're studying really hard and have piles of paper that look messy but are actually really important and absolutely imperatively placed in the right order, I can't risk it - if she touches them, she could put them back a lot of marks - and as for the common rooms in the house - I do not want her anywhere near them. They are comfortably untidy and she's obsessive. Put ONE magazine out of place and she turns into a screaming harpy.

PLus she will want to stay overnight and that will turn into two days, three days, a week....

I can't take it. It's like I've got everyone pulling on me from every angle and I just can't live with it right now.

Blergh. I think I may call in some of my days off and take a couple of weeks with the SO (he's a freelancer photographer so he works his own choices) down somewhere nice.

(And that was a very long ramble about the suck-tastic ness of my family issues)

Will be lurking more than posting this week. DH has a week of leave so we're going to chill out together and just do our own thing ;)

Thank you to the usual suspects for lists and efforts to keep me on track :D

Sorry, I've not had the chance to read the thread, hope you're all ok.

  • Hi All......

Have been meaning to join the FlyLady thread since finding OS and MSE but have been making naughty excuses to myself :D

So finally for the first time since we moved in (3 long years!) the entire house is now refurbished properlly, and there are no more excuses!

Started a new job about 2 months back, which has odd hours, and have still been finishing off bits and bobs in the house.
Last room was finished 2 weeks ago, all new plastered and painted, and last week I got binbag happy and starting from the top of the house gutted the place, no more clutter, no more mess, no more unworn clothes, unplayed with toys etc etc!!

So now its all down to keeping on top of it ;)...

Feel so much more relaxed than I have done in a long time, we moved into the house 2 weeks before xmas 2006, with my dd2 just 4 months old and me with a bad case of mastitas, and ever since its been a struggle to get everything done! (I actually went 4 months without a kitchen at the worst point!)
Silly me for falling in love with a house that needed so much work , but looking round it now it was very very worth it!!

So I'm now using the FlyLady thread as my cleaning bible and hopefully it will stay as spick and span as its looking now!

    Sorry for the ramble!

RIght tody my plan to do/have already done:

Am leaving the windows for OH on the weekend, as they are big sash ones and I'm a clumsy so* and would only fall out! Ditto the top of the kitchen units!
Thankfully all the cupboards are decluttered so its keeping on top of it now.
    :T:T

Has gone to play on her own little world for a bit..... but its ok the voices in her head came too so she's not alone ;)
