O2 price plans - xnet 500 same price as 250?

I've just got the L6 on O2 with xnet 250 and 12 months cashback. I rang up to get my PUK from 3 who offered me a very decent retention plan, 500 xnet 3months half price, 6 months normal payment then would credit me with £120 and last 3 months are free. This works out as £105 for the year with any phone and lots of mins, i'm tempted so I can get a free smartphone

I often use about 350mins so was looking at O2 other price plans and saw that they now offer a 500 xnet mins for same price as 250 mins.

I dont gettit?! Can I transfer onto this tarrif and still get my cashback? Why are 02 doing a tarrif that is half as good for the same cost?

O2 site doesnt reaaly make this very clear - is the xnet 500 just for 18 month contracts

Back in December '05 it was actually possible to get that tariff on a 12m contract, however this offer seems to be on 18m contracts only now (last checked an O2 shop 2 weeks ago).
