.....or there was a generic wiring fault in your circuit?
How were the lights faulty? Exposes wires? Overheated?0 -

I don't understand why some people post when they are being of no help to the OP and giving more grief than needed.
I wish you the best OP.
Its because rather than asking what she could do to stop this happening to other people, she actually asked "What should i expect in terms of compensation?".
Its a sad state of affairs when people are looking to get money out of every situation, even more so when they use their kids to try and get it.0 -
I doubt you'd get anything in compensation. You can't be compensated for 'what if's', and I'm assuming you didn't need any medical help after your shock so there's nothing to be compensated for there. But you could get them to look into if it's a faulty lot and get them recalled if necessary.0

Could someone clarify how exactly this was dangerous to a 6 month child without neglect being involved?0

My toaster just popped the toast out without prior warning...it made me jump and scream.
Who can I sue?
Take them back, they will test them independently and if necessary recall the stock.0 -
i have to say I'm with the ones asking why you actually want compensation?
Tell trading standards what happened, they will investigate and if its a one of its a one off, it is a batch thing they will recall the batch...etc etc

If I were you I'd also contact trading standards for them to investigate further and to express your concerns to have the other stock examined.

because if people didn't post stating the alternate view to what the OP was expecting then this country would fall into a country of 'lets see who I can sue...' society quicker than it currently is at the moment

If you switched them on and nothing happened then got a shock when you went to turn them off it sounds like a short has occurred somewhere, maybe in the power converter box that the christmas lights have and you touched that, or maybe in the house electric socket itself, but I am no electrician and it's just my guess! It does need to be investigated though that's for sure, I think your best bet is to contact trading standards, who should test the lights and take the case up, BUT be careful of the socket in your house just in case its that what is to blame - get it checked?
If it was the lights then it's lucky it didn't happen to an older person or someone in not too good health, I know this forum doesn't like the "what if's" but TBH getting a shock off new Christmas tree lights shouldn't happen and someone needs to be made to account for it, because it could have been worse.0 -
Are their many that think compensation culture has got way out of control?
Be thankful you are ok and your baby was not shocked at all.Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p
It is not illegal to open another persons mail unless you intend to commit fraud - this is frequently incorrectly posted
I live in my head - I find it's safer there:p
