Amazing things you've seen given away on freecycle?

I was looking on freecycle just a few minutes ago and I saw something that made me think "wow".

I really hope that went to a deserving family where it will be used as a Christmas present, not someone who sells it on.
That's the problem with it , anyone can make up a sob story saying how much they would like/ need it.
So, what amazing things have you either seen or received off freecycle? :j

I'm hoping that a kid's !!!!ed their mum off so much, she's thought "that's it, I'm doing something to make you regret what you've done. Goodbye favourite toy".Back on MSE after a 5 year hiatus.

My son got a lovely tropical fish tank complete with filters and lights in the lid.
When we collected it the lady who had offered it was really nice and said that she had soemone else come to collect it the day before and had told her it was a bit grubby and he thought it was really bad for chavs like her to expect people to wash things when they get them. He even 'jokily' had said that he'd be interested in her new one that she had in the lounge instead..so she refused to hand anything over to him.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thing with freecycle is that you do come across posts that make you think 'wow' why wouldn't you just sell that rather than give it away for free and i guess some people think its more hassle than what its worth trying to sell it.
In the past i've been gifted a - glass coffee table that was still selling in argos, a tv cabinet, a slow cooker that was still selling in tesco for £20, clothes, an electric fire that i got gifted just a few weeks ago and is quite new, its black with log/flame effect and is compact with a little door that opens, retails at about £50.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
37" LCD tv went on ours once. Get the odd car listed, have had a few Xboxes go recently too, although not 360s. That's the stuff that's kind of stood out in the last few months. Have tried to do our bit with offering stuff too.0

Just because it's Alienware, doesn't mean it was any good. They make them to the buyer's spec / price, so if you can't afford much you can still get an AW shell and name, but it might be ludicrously crap on the inside.ive seen lots of computers on freecycle one was an alienware one although i wasnt quick enough
Yes, it might have been a water-cooled quad-core... but it could also have been running on 512mb of RAM, and an old Celeron processor.

I have had a fantastic large wood swinging garden seat with unused canopy and a large house type bird table, a rabbit hutch, a guinea pig hutch, new fish tank in funky purple with filter never used, and lots of other sundry items.
I have given too, many times, furniture, all the big garden toys etc.
It's a brill idea.0 -
The DS offer is ok, but it's a bit naughty that they're insisting people collect 'this afternoon'. Doesn't give you the impression that she'll be putting a massive amount of thought into choosing the recipient, and not really in the spirit of the thing. My TV is broken!

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Why? The declared purpose of Freecycle is to keep things out of landfill. It should make absolutely no difference whether the recipient uses it themselves, sells it on eBay or whatever as long as it doesn't end up in the tip.I really hope that went to a deserving family where it will be used as a Christmas present, not someone who sells it on.Philip0 -
I am sure this is okay as it is an older version.
But we had a spate of people offering high end electronics on our freecycle a couple of years ago - but they were just harvesting local e-mail addresses.
On another occasion I applied for a DS lite game for my grand-daughter. I got an immediate reply asking me for my address and saying they'd bring it round immediately, as they had nothing better to do. This was despite the fact that it would be around a 20 mile round trip for them. I declined their offer and asked for their details so I could pick it up, and didn't hear anything further from them.
So while I don't doubt that by far the vast majority of people on freecycle are genuine, please be alert to the occasional scammer.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0
