I have had some great stuff from freecycle, curtains that are up in the window as we speak, a water chiller that was bought for £99 (personally wouldnt have bought it but now it is here it is well used) a couple of beds, and today a beautiful leaded glass cabinet made of solid wood.

When we moved house I gifted loads of baby stuff and it was always nice to see it go to a good home where it was going to be used.

Why? The declared purpose of Freecycle is to keep things out of landfill. It should make absolutely no difference whether the recipient uses it themselves, sells it on eBay or whatever as long as it doesn't end up in the tip.

I tend to agree. I don't mind people collecting to resell (although they're unlikely to get anything which I could eBay myself tbh :o) Most of what I've given away has been old white goods which have broken, and it's easier for me to just get a new one (I know, I know) so I don't begrudge anyone who thinks they can fix it collecting and making a few quid.

I've seen computers and ipods before. My best personal one though was a big solid kitchen/butchers trolley. I was expecting one of the cheap ikea ones but when I got there it was huge and really high quality, I'm really happy with it.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

I have given away on freecycle:

PC monitors (I delivered them as the requestee was going to collect on foot!)
    Washing machine
    Tumble dryer
    Electric organ

I asked for a garden shredder in the wanted section and a woman sent me an email saying she had one she was about to offer on freecycle. I immediately replied, thanking her profusely and asking when I could collect.

She then listed it gave it to someone else!

I wonder why she emailed me if she wasn't going to give it to me? It really annoyed me and I stopped using freecyle after that.

I had a similar thing happen with some books. Turned out the giver never got my message, and in fact I subsequently learned that it happens occasionally if you just hit reply when someone messages you. So now I always go back into freecycle/freegle and message them from there.

  • i havent received anything on freecycle i just really go on once I have something to get rid of.
ive given away a dishwasher, washing machine and fridge freezer (only because the house i was moving to already had them in and were all a few years old)
also given away kids bits and bobs
have to say it is a brilliant way to recycle things

  • The ds one came up in our area - it was a scammer who wanted the email addresses for a very agressive campaign.
