iPhone Repair

Well, I just happened to drop my iPhone in a puddle. It just so happens that that "puddle" was at the time contained within a white porecelain flushable bowl (lucky it was AFTER flushing phew).

Can anyone suggest the most MSE method of getting it repaired. Should I take it to the Apple store (an hour's drive away) and pay to get it fixed? (If it is even fixable).

I love love love my iPhone and would like to get it fixed. It is just not turning on at all right now. :(

I think when the Apple Store "fix it" they just give you a refurbished handset. I think they charge around about £150 for it.

Yes, I have personal items insurance.

    Is it worth claiming though?

CG19a is correct. Still cheaper than a SIM free or PAYG.

The Apple store will not fix water damage to the handset. It's deemed beyond economical repair so would cost more to fix and refurbish than the handset is actually worth.

Home insurance is the best option if no mobile insurance.

They will swap it out though for a fee of around £150 I believe. I was in an Apple store recently when a customer dropped their's - That what the Apple Genius told the customer.

Earlier this year when I worked there there was nothing you could do with a water damaged handset. If you shine a torch inside the headphone socket and it's red (and the same where the charging socket is), it means (or did mean) it's beyond economical repair and we told them to try home insurance.

Water damage is different to being dropped, as it renders the inside of the phone worthless and no parts can be salvaged because of the rust.

It may have changed though since I was there!

I may cry, I did the torch shining and it is red! :(
  • Don't cry yet.

Go out and buy a bag of rice.

Put the iPhone in the bag (bury it inside the rice) overnight and see what happens in the morning.

Don't laugh..... it [sometimes] works ;)
