Given that this was early days in the process of bringing the jobs to the UK, I would not be surprised if this was BT posturing in its negotiations with the Union.

Not speaking English does not make you an idiot.

It does if you are trying to help someone who is based in the UK and could be descirbed as 'British'. That can be anyone of course but they would understand other British people. Like when you speak or chat to a Tesco till operator -there's understanding there. If that's not there they won't be allowed to sit behind the till and if you can't sit behind a till and communicate with your customers you are literally an idiot and unsuited for the job.

Most of the people foisted on me via phone from BT and Dell EASILY fall into either all or partially the description @ http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/idiot?jss=0

They may not be an idiot in their own country but they are here. That's the problem, they'd not get a job here in the first place. Why would they? Why would anyone employ someone to help customers if they have -literally- no understanding?

It's like asking you dog the square root of 88. It looks at you, it loves you, it wants you to smile back, but it can't help.

    Daft as a brush.

Surely a company known by the name of British Telecom should at least have phone staff that are based in Britain?

Of course the difference is that even with correct tools, information, training, support and empowerment, your dog could never tell you the square root of 88. Not even if it were given the choice of paper and pencil, log table, slide rule, calculator or spreadsheet.

But the Indian call centre agent would be capable of providing proper service if he were provided with correct tools, information, training, support and empowerment.

So it is not down to Indians being Indians, it is down to incompetent cheap skating companies asking for what the Indians could deliver and then not providing them the means to do it.

Your complaint is akin to blaming train drivers recruited to run a 4 hour train service between Edinburgh and Paris for consistent delays when a railway capable of the job has never been built.

No, it makes you an idiot for not researching the products you buy - if you are not happy with their aftercare, then go elsewhere. Simples. Even a stupid dog could understand that, if explained in the right language [using your own terminology].

You can go with the Post Office. If they are too expensive, then you probably are not to concerned about the Indians. But I am happy to pay to be rid of them.

Yes, this ignorance understandably enrages even the mildest person. It is the fault of BT for letting the Indian operation operate completely without effective control

I would thing that when writing a rant about others' grasp of the English language it would be prudent to take care that the rant itself is written in correct English.

This has nothing to do with Indians. I've had the same problem with South Africans with TalkTalk.

It's understanding. That has nothing to do with training, files, data, training, supervision, accent, nationality etc etc

If one cannot understand something one is supposed to be helping with (a British person with British ideals and -need I say it- a British based complaint) they are as much use as an idiot. When I need a decorator to understand the paint colour and requirements, if he cannot he is an idiot. Or he is not a decorator.

My point is clear to me but it seems it was a bit too subtle for some reading this.
