Retail is hell this time of the year. I doubt any of the whiners here have ever stood behind a shop counter. :D

Damn right - boxing day is just pure evil :eek:

Lol- Have worked about 5 years as a sales assistant in various stores, fashion retail mainly- we were never allowed to hold stuff back for ourselves on the first day of the sale- said the manager. Problem is it was a them-and-us attitude with our manager and we all conspired to hide stuff in the stock room for each other!

We weren't allowed to purchase before the sale started and our lunch breaks would see queues of an hour and a half long (only proven as one of us stupidly tested this!) but have a heart- retail is HELL much of the time- depending on where you work, customers can be very nasty and often forget there is a person behind the shop assistant uniform and often a young person at that.

Its hard to imagine though, a harder bunch of 16-24 year olds then the ones I have worked in- most of the people who do those jobs do really want to help you. Its a dull and dead job alot of the time and team work and helping people smile can really make it all feel worthwhile, otherwise its just every day of pure lonely and long hell! (being that most of them are not really allowed to chat to each other on the shop floor, you can end up feeling very shut off, bored and lonely). It may be that the staff perks are what keep staff going- it was certainly that way for me alot of the time!

Maybe think of their pre-purchases as their Xmas gift, lets face it, if they were paid highly enough, they'd not have to wait for the sale to afford to do so!

I've never been shopping on boxing day!!! However much I'd like too I'm tied to my cold beef and mash family duties!

Sigh, I miss all the bargains!!!!
Nor have I (I refuse to go to the shops, there's no enjoyment in being trampled ) - but I did overtime one year when working as a Christmas temp in Bhs.

The lengths some people will go to!

I did the Boots sale last year on Boxing Day. The store opened at 10, I was in and out in half an hour and back home by 10.45, then I got on with all the Boxing Day food etc.

If you have one close to you it may be worthwhile popping out for half an hour or so.
  • Does anyone have a code for 10% off when you spend £45? I know there was one around, but can't find it anywhere now!

I think it's expired. It was sitting in my basket just in case, but it's gone now.
  • On the Boots site it says that if you order online by 2.30pm on Friday 18th they will deliver to store by 23rd December. I thought pickup at store was going to be too late for Christmas?
  • Went into my local yesterday and saw about 3 hatboxes on the shelf, as opposed to the 8 or so that were there last week. Either they're being put aside or people are buying them now on the off chance of returning and rebuying it on Friday!

But there were TONS of fcuk bags!
Do good deeds and you could raise the curtain, do good deeds and you could really raise your life....
  • Just went and asked at my local boots. They said they have loads out the back ready for Friday!!! Yey!!
If my words are missing letters then please excuse me....my keyboard is a tad dodgy!!
  • I am soooo excited about Friday - think i'll have a nervous breakdown before then! hehe!
Does anyone know if the OOTW is limited instore i.e. 1 per person cos I need to get 3 - 1 for myself (present from my ds), 1 for mum (who is working) and 1 for sister (who is having fun in Disneyland Paris

Always left to me to do all the running about :(
