Boots OOTW 18/12/09

I appreciate that some of the staff have to work, and of course it is a shame that they have to work on Boxing Day. Perhaps the stores should stay shut on Boxing Day instead, and just open on the "normal" days.
I'd be happy if those staff that have to work on the day of the sale had the opportunity to put items aside. But why do the staff that aren't working that day get a head start? Surely Boots are making LESS out of selling to them than they would out of selling to other customers. The staff already have a good perk in that they pay less for the items than others do. They've chosen to work there.
I was annoyed. I'll no doubt be annoyed again when it happens again this year. But I'll get over it. Boots will get less money out of me, but I'm sure they'll survive
Please note: yes, I was annoyed because the items I wanted waltzed out from the store before it was opened to the public, in the hands of people who were obviously not working there that day (and told the people waiting that there was nothing No7 or S&G left at all - I saw these items in their bags). In the grand scheme of things it's not a big deal, but it was frustrating to see when I'd been waiting outside in the cold and then got to see massive empty spaces on the shelves.
If you don't want to work on Boxing Day or if you don't want to miss out on the sale items, maybe Retail isn't the career for you. I often miss out on other bargains because I'm at work and can't get to the shops when they're open, or can't get to my personal computer in time. /shrug0 -
do all the stores get the ootw? my local is quite small, i havent seen the s&g box there before0

I don't get this - not having a go at anyone and certainly not you Ilona personally - your post was just the nearest - but why is it so bad for Boots staff to get discount sale stuff? They have stroppy customers, mental Xmas pressie buyers to try and help, mad people shouting at them for no reason and just have to take it, it's not like they earn a fortune and sometimes have really pants shifts and things, so why not have a little perk of the job being you get first pick at sales? I would have thought it's the least they deserve after the madness of Xmas - and really, is anyone's life really going to alter for the worse because they didn't get that shimmery lipstick set that was reduced?
My brother (many many moons ago) used to work for M&S and they used to get reduced stuff every night just for staff, which was a bit naughty as they would try and damage things to go into it - it's not like the staff at Boots are doing that, just buying things that the company want shot of to try and recoup some money on them.
Many jobs have perks and why shouldn't they? I'd never begrudge any boots staff member (whether they work boxing day or not) getting a bargain as a perk of the job the same as I don't begrudge those who get discount cards or cars etc - we spend a fair bit of our lives at work so any perks are nice.
The only thing that winds me up re bargains are those who buy in bulk to put on ebay whilst not actually being a business.0 -
I also stood outside our local Boots store watching the staff inside select and pay for their bargains - again mostly the No 7 and Sanctuary stuff everyone had been waiting for most of the autumn to reduce. I don't have a problem with the staff getting a discount. In fact I don't particularly have a problem with them getting first 'dibs' - this is common throughout retail sales events. What isn't nice is having to watch it happen while you're waiting outside in the cold before official trading hours.
Does anyone know if the staff are likely to get first refusal on the OOTW before store opening times? Just so I know whether to bother going into town at all...:D
Anyway I hope there are tons of S&G Hatboxes out there so everyone gets one...0 -

These really are silly quotes, big companies will always open on any day that they know desperate shoppers will be out looking for bargains. And I don't think anyone 'wants' to work on Boxing Day, usually they don't have a choice!! Whether it is or is not the career for them maybe its the only job they could get. I am working Boxing Day, all day and yes I will have first pick of the sale stock, and yes I will get 25% discount on top of that. So what?? Its a perk of the job and I am a customer too regardless of whether I work there or not.
On a lighter note, I'm really hoping I can get this deal!! Looking forward to Friday for this very reason, hopefully there will be some left when I call in on my break from work and thats my sisters pressie sorted!!:money:0 -

Regarding staff - as far as i was aware - things like OOTW on discount - staff are only allowed one of the OOTW....As otherwise they will be subjected to some kind of thing whereby they r stopping the profit of the company but wuld this apply to the xmas sale also?0

I had a wander in my local Boots today to assess stocks of the S & G hatbox and there were only 2 on the shelf. I think I'd need to queue all night to be in with even a slight chance, unless they have more stock hidden away!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0
