I'm still totally baffled by this (even after reading the comments by t_mob_insider2).

I'm in exactly the same position. My 18 month term started 13/07/08 and expires 13/01/10. Today I've had a (what I hope to be the final) line rental bill in advance 15/12/09-14/01/10.

I've called up to request the PAC code which I hope to use in around 25 days time. However they are are quoting me an ETF similar to my line rental (line rental less 4% as per T&C?).

Two different CS reps say the only way to get my PAC for free is to wait until 13/01/10.
If I've already been billed for the 18 months why are they wanting to charge me an ETF? It seems as though there is no way to leave at exactly 18 months and take your number without paying any extra.

I understand that using the PAC within 18 months constitutes early termination of the contract, but I've now paid for 18 months. If I want to leave early I should be able to do so for free now, and same for the OP?

I've read a horror story of the eighteenth month line rental being refunded, an ETF being charged, price plan cancelled, and all calls made between PAC issued and the transfer taking place being charged at standard rate. Am I missing something here? :j
  • if you are in the 17mth month of the 18mth contract - then request your pac - yes there will be 1month ETF but this will be cancelled out by the months deposit you paid at the start of the contract ( meaning you have paid an 18mth contract). If you wait until the end date the request the pac code then no ETF and when your final bill comes through it will show a credit of the deposit you paid at the start? ( meaning you have paid 19mths and the credit is one month due to be refunded) ... if you do not use your pac code then your account will not close.
  • it was my understanding that requesting your PAC initiated the 30 day notice. If you use the PAC code you are accountable for paying the line rental on the remainder of those thirty days. Regardless if you use it the next day or on day 29, you still need to pay up to the 30th day.

    is that correct?

    Thanks for the explanation.
