I bank at HSBC and they've never charged me. Try and pick a time when they're not too busy. The last couple of times I've used the machine at Tesco's and you don't have to worry about bagging up the coins. They charge very little commision and think it's well worth it. I've heard Abbey don't accept coins but not sure how true that is.0

It always makes me smile to see parents taking their children to use one of those Coinstar machines in supermarkets. At 7.4% commision, mine won't be using them.0
